Terry Beeson Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 trout weight = (length x girth x girth) / 800 For example, you catch a 16 inch trout with an 11 inch girth. Using the formula for trout above: (16 x11 x 11) / 800 = 2.42 pounds. Your trout weighs approximately 2.42 pounds. Some variations of that forumla circulate, but it's close... Is that an inch tape or metric? taxidermist Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 26X14X14 6.37 pounds, unless the fish is from slow water like a lake, then it may weigh less. Fish from fast water are more muscle than from slow water. So muscle we know weighs more than fat. I marked 6 inches from the ruler on screen on a postcard ,and placed the marked card verticle on the fish, there was a bit of extra for overlap so I allowed 7 inches also allowing that the fish is curved,,a 14 inch girth. Nice fish I would love to catch it.

It expired in our trout pond this summer of natural causes - probably old age - and I was curious about what it might weigh. Having no experience with trout this size , I thought I'd ask the group. I've never caught a Trout on a fly in still water, and its a personal goal of mine to do so in the near future even tho it will probably be stocker set loose for the urban fishing program. Sure would prefer that it would come out of a spring fed lake with a reproducing population. I would be happy to trade a dozen or so still water fly patters for a one day pass tho Nice fish and please think a little bit of us poor slobs out here drooling about your pond next time you have a take form a nice one.
