Guest Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I'm debating on upgrading the bearings in my Revo S that's 8 years old. Has anybody on here changed to the Boca bearings? What are the pros/cons of swapping them out? I wonder if the extra cost is really worth it. Thanks http://www.bocabearings.com/bearing-applications/fishing-reel-bearings/ceramic-orange-seal-abec-7/abu-garcia-bearings
WeekendWarrior Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I have upgraded bearings on a couple reels with ABEC5 ceramic and a stainless and could tell a difference, the ceramics are a little noisier than stainless. I got mine through Smoothdrag.com and not boca. I don't believe you need ABEC7 bearings, reel tolerances are not made that fine and you will not be able to tell difference. Believe I paid $14 for stainless and $20 for ceramic for spool bearings. They have the ABEC7 bearings as well for I think $15 each. Also upgraded my drag washers to carbontex which was nice.
Guest Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Do you think it will make a difference on the first generation curado & revo that have become "grindy feeling"?
WeekendWarrior Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 That sounds like you have some grit on your main gear. Those old curados are a piece of cake to work on, not much to them once you get over the fear of all the little pieces which are not bad. Just lay them out in order as you take them off. I use simple green/water mix to clean parts off. There are some videos out there to help or I can help if you have questions
Guest Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I was telling my dad last night, that I'm deficient at reel maintenance in fear of goofing it up. I'm going to have the salesman break down my next reel before I buy it, that way I know exactly how to break down & reassemble without that same fear.

I was the same way but decided to just jump in and do it to save a bunch of money. All my reels are older shimano reels, curados and chronarch mg which like I said are not that hard. Have done other reels for guys in our club, calcuttas, revos, basspro and they are all similar. Helps to have schematic when working on reels not familiar with.
