Fishing the upper end has been tough...really tough...Between the number of boats, the chumming, all the shad that have been coming through at night I figure the fish are Fat, Happy, Full and most probably gorged to the hilt.

On friday we had no choice but to fish the upper end as one of our fisherman was sick and wanted to rest in the morning and be picked up after lunch. We hi-tailed it out of there and headed for Ranchetts. What a difference 25 miles make. There have been reports of shad making it down that far but not like the numbers upstream. In the three hours we fished we boated 40+ fish and missed only know how many. Mostly blowflies with tungsten bead, egg patterns, midges and caddis larvae as there was a caddis hatch. As I said ina previous post I had spoken with Davy Wotton who reported that the caddis were think from Armstrong Hole down to Rim Shoals. Headed back down to Ranchetts today and give the upper end a break. Gonna fight the wind again today but not as bad down there as the first 8 miles of the white and far less crowded....
