Members Flyfisher78 Posted March 7, 2007 Members Posted March 7, 2007 I was sitting on my riverside deck today (Bull Shoals was shut down) and I noticed the bankside rocks and boulders on the other side looked like they had been whitewashed. That is dried Didymo. I found this article on another flyfishing board and opted to post the URL because it is quite lengthy. If the New Zealand river tests are successful with the copper sulphate compound there may be hope for our rivers. http://gatheringoftheclan.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2789 James Fishing is the chance to wash one's soul with pure air. It brings meekness and inspiration, reduces our egotism, soothes our troubles and shames our wickedness. Besides, it's a lotta fun!...

Terry Beeson Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Thanks for posting this James... The felt sole issue brought up is an interesting one that most people might not have thought of... including me... Does this mean we all need to put our waders and boots in the freezer when we get home from the river? I'm not sure Cindy would appreciate that being right next to Sunday's pork roast... MrsDucky Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 If you have a freezer in your garage, that's the one I'd use! Actually, I like the hot water idea better...it actually seems easier than "freezing until solid." As far as I'm concerned, my first pair of waders will NOT be felt soled, since I don't have a chest freezer! It didn't mention it, but what about putting them in plastic bags, to cut off oxygen? As I type this I see at least one serious problem with this idea...you MIGHT kill the didymo, however, the mold or mildew that would result would not be pleasant. What about aquarium algecides? I can bring home the trout...fry it up in a pan...and never let you forget I caught it! 'Cause I'm a woman!
