Stump bumper Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Started this new thread just for the purpose of discussing fishing lights, price and where to get them. I bought one under power fishing light from Academy for $26. It got me to looking around and built my own that still leaks a little, total cost was about around $40 but still 50 times better. The one from Academy had 12 leds, mine has 360 leds .. I have since leaned more and wish I would have bought the 5050 leds instead of the 3528. I also found one on wish.com that has 180 leds with 900 lumens for $26 but I have had mixed results ordering straight from China. I don't night fish enough to go to Cabela's and spend $180 on light but that is the one I like, I saw one on the lake and it does put out some light. Thoughts, questions..share your experience.
J-Doc Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 You trying to precook them before catching them? Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Vinsott Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 My white light I bought off of Ebay has 300 LED of the 5060 type. A bit brighter then 5050. They supposedly have a name brand led in them not the cheap ones????? All those led are still not as bright as the little ball shaped lights that the Asian couple have. Theirs looks one bulb in each but puts out mega light. I paid $69 plus shipping. The green does look cooler too! My green one is an old Bass Pro fluorescent tube not near as bright as the white but still attracts bait, just not as much I think due to the intensity. I just could not see myself spending the $200-300 that some of the fancy ones cost. Now I just have to work on replacing tackle and rod and reels.
Members Chillfish Posted July 10, 2016 Members Posted July 10, 2016 I have one that a buddy built for me much like yours. It puts out a ton of light, too much in my experience. I was finding that I couldn't get bait close to the boat, and only the rods away from the light got bit. I took half off so that I ended up with a little over a foot of length coiled, and put the rest on a long horizontal piece that I hung just above the water line. Bait in the net and fish biting my bait increased exponentially. Just my two cents.

There is never too much, MORE POWER has always got to be better, bigger is better. lol I was out last night and had the little light off the back and big light on the front. You could not compare the two in drawing bait, the big light had swarms. I did not draw any fish, but had so many shad out in 97 feet of water the depth finder kept bottoming out at 14 feet. I was able to hand scoop minnows around the big light for bait. Vinsott and Chillfish 2
Members oodlesiggy Posted July 15, 2016 Members Posted July 15, 2016 I bought my 120 LED green light 1250 Lumens from NewEgg.com for $40, I believe it has 16ft of cord.
