Members Bg193ch Posted July 18, 2016 Members Posted July 18, 2016 Launched from rocky branch by 730. I wanted to get there earlier, but didn't make it. I used the ramp back in the cove so when I was idling out I decided to hit the east bank because it was still shady. Tried a sexy dawg and a swimbait. Nothing. Worked out closer to the front and tried graphing some cover and marking it. This is fairly new to me. I've been with a guy and watched him do it once and seen some on you tube. Setting up the casting rings and positioning the boat was taking up more time than anything. I was throwing shakey head around the cover. The cover was rock mostly. Got a few nibbles. Tried around the island across from rb and a couple of pockets off the main lake. Shot back into rambo and tried the steep points at the back with the shakey head and throwing a crank in about 17-19. I got hooked up once and it got off at the boat. Little one. It was a pretty day and there were a ton of boats out, so it was a chore to stay on a spot. Water temp stayed around 84. I called it at 2. I didn't find em yesterday that's for sure. Just keep hammering right? Vinsott 1

RyanG Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Heat and boat traffic do a good job keeping me off the water on the weekends but if I would have to guess hitting mainlake points early would be a good bet. It's been a few weeks but that worked well for me when I was up there last. Also fishing deep seems to just be about the only way to get a decent bite. There are some real nice spots in the clifty arm, points with a lot of big rock. Also I had a decent bite on bluffs as well. Lots of trees on the bluffs so plenty of cover but harder to fish. I got bit with my bait down about 20 feet and was sitting in much deeper water. I can't imagine it has changed that much. Drop shot and the Ned rig. I havnt done well at all on the shakey head this season but I'll catch em on the Ned. Little changes like that seem to go a long way. I'm not beaver lake stick by any means but this has been my experience this year. If you can ever get out on a cool cloudy or even rainy day, top water and shallow. On the fourth when the storms were coming through the top water bite was insane, next day non-existent. Blll 1

chi0082 Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 You gotta get there at dark 30 and fish til daybreak. On most days, by the time I'm leaving the lake in the morning, anglers are just getting in the water at the ramp. If you want good top water action, the best times for me (weekend before last) was right as the sky was starting to glow. Had whites, largemouth, stripers, hybrids, walleye, all chasing shad and I think I caught every species of fish on that one morning...even catfish on topwater. Just one of those mornings. Blll 1

Thank you for the info. I need to drag my behind out of bed earlier and get it done.
