Guest flyfishBDS Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Hey troops too funny Terry, Mr D its a lot easier watching someone do retrieve's than reading about it. Even then it can be hard to imitate. When you get down, remind me and Ill run through some stuff Ive picked up with you. I learnt early on to pay close attention to retrives after being comprehensively beaten up by a buddy one night on a lake in Tassie. He had it down adn I couldn't imitate it. First off nature may have rhythyms but they aren't constant. irregularity is the key. Watch the way small fish move, according to size species etc. They are erratic. So strip strip pause strip strip pause strip strip pause isn't natural. Strip strip, stutter, strip strip strip pause, wiggle rod tip, strip scatch butt, strip strip, light smoke, strip strip strip is more typical. ^The short jerky twitchy retrieve John talks about I like a lot, picked it up after watching an old guy on Taney one day, but if you watch the tiny minnows/fry they are like a dashsund, lots of movement with buggerall progress. Only I move the fly less than an inch at the time. The hand twist of Dano is very good for real slow movement, yet constatnt contact. In more current situations, think how your fly is swimming, is it head first downstream or like a lot of writing recommends swimming broadside to the fishiest lies. Lots to try Just remember imagination is not a curse Cheers Steve

MrsDucky Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Strip strip, stutter, strip strip strip pause, wiggle rod tip, strip scatch butt, strip strip, light smoke, strip strip strip is more typical. I didn't get the camera out quickly enough, but my son was trying the strip strip strip pause, wiggle rod tip, strip scratch butt technique...with no luck! I have visions of a TU fund raiser and it's scary I just found out our neighbor renewed his TU membership because of the chapter...don't scare him off just yet, Dano! I tried the streamer again, and although I could still get them to follow, I just could not get them to actually bite! I wonder if it isn't too big, and that's what they don't like... I appreciate all the help! I can bring home the trout...fry it up in a pan...and never let you forget I caught it! 'Cause I'm a woman!
