NoLuck Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 Well I didn't make it Saturday so I went sunday instead.Fishing started off as always with a bang.By 9 am it was a little tuff. When I switched over to a zebra midge #20 I started picking up quite a few fish. I fished it right through the fish where ever they were in the water column. If you didn't put it under their nose they didn't seem to even notice it was there. Then at mid-day there was a hatch of something that resembled a light cahill in #20-22. I picked up half a doz or so on the dry.Seemed to be best when casting down stream from above the fish for some reason. Then at the last couple hours of fishing there was multiple hatches going on.Midges,Caddis, mosquitos and who knows what else. The air was thick with insects all thru the upper stream. Total I probably caught 25-30 fish.Thats not bad for me on the first day out during keep season. All in all it was a great day fishing even though the crowd was a little bigger than I am used to at Montauk. Take Care All.... Rich
Kicknbass Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I was there sunday fishing the fly only area about the mid point. I started fishing about 9:00 and caught 5 or 6 on an olive mirco jig w/ grizzly hackle, then I caught several on a #20 griffens knat, Tried a couple of other jigs and midge patterns, with varying success Total, I caught about 15-20 fish between 9:00 and 2:00. It was a very relaxing day. What part of the stream was you fishing? " Too many hobbies to work" - "Must work to eat and play"
NoLuck Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 KicknBass, I started out at the spring and worked my way down stream to about half way to the spill way. Went to eat lunch and went back and fished my way from the spillway up to about halfway to the spring.I had a blast for fishing by myself. I usually end up that way cause all my friends consider trout fishing wine&cheese fishing.Oh well I don't mind. I probably walked by you somewhere along the way. I wanted to try below the concrete bridge but there were more people there than usual.I have pretty good luck in the riffles on dry flies. Rich
