John Berry Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 My wife Lori and I eat at the Rendezvous, Corky's, Little Pigs and Interstate Barbeque virtually every time we visit. Terry is right, its the ribs! John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Terry Beeson Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Any barbeque joints worth the time in Mt Home or its 'burbs, John? Rib Crib and Smokey Bones are pretty good chains here in Springfield. Buckingham's in Nixa is hit or miss. But I've heard Crosstown is the best. Have yet to get out there. Anyone around here have an opinion or Springfield area BBQ? RiverRunner Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Some might disagree with me, but for the best ribs around are Interstate (wet ) and Rendezvous (dry) in Memphis. Also, you gotta get the sausage and cheese plate at Rendezvous. I think "yankee style" BBQ is anything cooked on a grill to our cold weather friends. Of course, I'm sure its better than that horrible stuff they call BBQ in North Carolina. I'm sorry, but pure vinegar is not BBQ sauce. I think I need to got to Memphis tonight!
John Berry Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 The sad truth is that bad barbeque in Memphis beats anything here. Beufords (which claims to be Memphis Barbeque) is a disappointment. KT'S and Brents are OK but neither is up to Memphis standards. Lori and I keep a couple of slabs of Corky's ribs in the freezer for emergencies. My brother Dan cooks a pretty good shoulder and always gives me a call when the smoker is fired up. My wife, Lori is working on her ribs and getting pretty good at it. Terry Beeson Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Didn't Corky's have a place in Mt Home that shut down last year or so? Did it "measure up" to the Memphis standards? The one in Jonesboro was close, but no cigar to the Memphis Corky's. But I agree with RR about Interstate and Rendevous. But honestly, I miss "The Shack" in Little Rock. The OLD Shack... on Cantrell behind the old Shipley's Donuts and the pharmacy... Not the one that claims to be The Shack off 65th. My BIL makes a mean mess of ribs, but I have a friend in Batesville with a big smoker that knows how to make a brisket or pork shoulder that will make you slap yo' momma!!!! Just gotta slip a couple slabs of ribs in there someday... Dang, guys... All I got is a turkey sandwich for lunch. And I'm HON-GRY now for some good BBQ!!!! Danoinark Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Now all of you stop it right now...you really know how to hurt a guy...sitting right here in the middle of the Ozarks with no way of getting me some of that chopped pork. Jeeez fellows you don't know my pain. Yep don't miss the cheese plates at the Rendevous for sure. A rack of dry with an accompanying brew, its a feast for the Gods. I never was a big fan of Corky's. They had a place in Harrison, stayed open a couple of years and shut er down. Interstate is superb, and there used to be a little converted service station on Lamar in Memphis that served up BBQ Baloney that could not be beat along with his chopped pork too. If you are ever through Walnut Ridge over in Lawrence County Arkansas stop in at the Polar Freeze...some of the best pit pork you ever tasted. Man I am dying here.... Terry Beeson Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 (Waving a big hubcap size bun topped with hot fresh smoky chopped pork under Dano's nose...) There is a place in Texarkana off the beaten path a bit called "Big Jake's Smokehouse." Great barbeque that would rival many (at least it would 10 years ago...) Their motto is "Some may beat our prices, but NObody beats our meat..." Danimal Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Best dry ribs-- Neumeir's Rib Room & Beer Garden, Ft.Smith. Second to none. RELEASE THOSE BROWNIES!!
Members hornyheadchub Posted March 20, 2007 Members Posted March 20, 2007 BBQ in Springfield area? Pappy's Place at 943 N. Main Ave, hands down. Crosstown is great, but the last time I was in they were no longer serving beer. What the hell is BBQ without beer? I'd rather eat sand with beer than BBQ without beer. Plus Pappy's Place is a Springfield landmark and they have ice cold beer. Now, if you wanna get into some REAL BBQ, jump in the car and head to KC. Between Fiorella's Jack Stack, Arthur Bryant's, Gates, Oklahoma Joe's, and BB's Lawnside (best BBQ wings I've ever had) you'll be in hog (or turkey, or chicken, or beef) Heaven.
John Berry Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Being from Memphis, I have always heard that the Barbeque in Kansas City was good. I would really like to make the pilgramidge and try it out.
