Fishhand Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Headed down to Beaver on Sunday with a friend and we were going to try for some Whites, Hybrids and/or Stripers on fly. Wasn't quite sure if they are in the creeks yet, but it's worth a shot. Would anyone happen to have any stories, advice, etc. on specific patterns and/or general areas they've had luck (or no luck) with in the past. We were going to hit War Eagle Creek area early Sunday morning and then see if we needed to travel during the day to find them at evening. Sound plan? or a Sunday full of fultility? We'll have a little river boat so we'll be able to explore if need be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, JLS
bobber Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 i can see the fish rolling the water at day break just past the boat ramp off point 12 like 600 yards in the middle of the lake. but only if it's not windy...... 4 striper boats full of people have been trolling the bluff just past the highline wires for three days now... and on the upper white river past the 412 bridge run your depth finder till to find them! or find all the boats LOL!!!! hope you land a good one! <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
Bill Butts Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Jim, That's a great heads-up from Bobber. Thanks to him for sharing. I would suggest you call a couple of fly shops in that area that are knowledgable about the fishery. They follow it very closely this time of year. Todd or Michael at McLellan's Fly Shop....479-251-7037 Steve at the Beaver Dam Store....479-253-6154 Please remember to post your experiences, good or not so good. Hope this is helpful. Fishhand Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 Thanks for the much needed info folks. I'll let you know about the day regardless of success or failure. I'm taking the camera just in case...They didn't tell me at Wal-Mart when I bought the camera that it doubles as a fish repellent. Why is that? Thanks again, JLS
cpriest Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 will be fishing the twin bridges saturday afternoon/evening. will report on patterns that did the job (or didnt)
cpriest Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I fished today from 130 to 530 and had very little luck. This was my first time fly fishing for bass, and i only got 1 in my hand but hooked up with 3 or 4 others. It was a really slow day, most likely due to the water temp dropping more than 4 degrees Celsius in 2 days. White and chartreuse worked best for me today
jay bird Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 I am not an expert, but there are some on this forum. If you can get some information from some of the guys on presentation, line weight, leader length, fly selection, etc. it will really improve your chances. Fly fishing for white bass, whipers/stripers is a whole new ball game and there are some definite techniques that can improve your chances.
Fishhand Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 My buddy and I wound up not going down to Beaver Lake on Sunday. We figured the cold snap that came through the area may have shut them down. Based on Bill's report of Saturdays' fishing, boy did we make a mistake. So, I don't have a fishing report, but thanks for the input on the thread. We'll get 'em next time....JLS
