Micheal Kyle Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 have had to change the date of the Backcountry Outfitters' White Bass Seminar, one of the premier fly tyers had something that they could not reschedual. The new date will be Thursday, March 22. It will still be here at the shop in the Fremont Shopping Center at 7pm. The topics covered will be: * Type of gear rods and lines * Types of flies * Places to fish * How to read the water, including * ideal water conditions, temperature, water depth and clarity. At the conclusion of the discussion, there will be tying demonstrations of our favorite and successful patterns. Terry Tanner will be one of our featured presenters and tyers; he may even let the cat out of the bag on some of his secrets. If you are not familar with Terry, he is one of a few legendary fly tiers in Southwest Missouri and is a tying regular at the SOC Conclave in Mountain Home. He also has a video out that walks you through step by step of his patterns. Terry is well versed in several different patterns for white bass that just might improve your game. Jim Murphy will also be tying some of his favorite white bass flies. Jim has also been tying for many years. He is well accomplished with tying here at the local level, as well as tied in past National Conclaves in Idaho Falls and West Yellowstone. Jim was even on Fly Fish TV, the Nation Conclave Special, in 2005. One of Jim's most recent accomplishments is becoming a fly innovator/designer for Rainy's Flies, in Logan Utah. A couple of his warm water flies are being produced and sold all over the world by Rainy's. I hope that everyone will be able to make this special event. I'm especially looking forward to this years' White Bass season, now that our area lakes have some water. At the conclussion of the seminar, Backcountry Outfitters will be giving away 2 Rio fly lines and a fly box with two dozen flies in it, especially for white bass fishing. loo10 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 EXCELLENT!!! I had to be out of town last night and was afraid I'd missed it. Checked to see if there'd been a report and saw it was rescheduled. Terrific news as far as I was concerned. I'll definately be there next Thursday the 22nd. -loo10 Rich Looten Springfield, Missouri "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong."- John Gierach

Yeah... Mathman needs a new fly line to go with that new rod he won at the last seminar. Better give away a reel at the next one so he'll be all fixed up... Members mathman Posted March 19, 2007 Members Posted March 19, 2007 Good idea Terry. By the way, that rod feels real good with a fish at the other end. the mathman "The constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself." Ben Franklin

Don Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I'll be there for the White Bass Seminar/Fish Fry. I guess I'll catch up on NCAA action later tonight. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Tightline Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Had a great time Micheal, the fly tyer was really interesting. But I am really glad I won the fly box with all the Clousers in it,since it would take me a month to tie all those. One of my old Bass fishing buddys is giving me alot of grief about trying this fly stuff,I intend on making him want to try it very soon! Thanks TL

Terry Beeson Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Oh Count Istvan Teleky if you are here, give us a sign... It's coming to me... Hold on... I see it.... I seee.... I see a figure... a man... on the water... cursing... cursing the wind... cursing the fish... cursing the rod in his hand. I see the man raising his knee and the rod... Then... he breaks the rod over his knee!!! I see a boat sinking. I see leaky waders. I see sunburn!! Dang, I hope that wasn't you, Don... But just to be safe, you may be cursed and the only way to get rid of the curse is to bury half a dozen pine squirrel sculpins, a lock of your hair, a new pair of Choata wader boots in size 14, and $500 cash under the willow tree next to the buckeye bush on the James River. That's the sacrafice Count Istvan Teleky wants to save you from the curse. Tell ya what... Just in case you don't know which Willow Tree, bring the items to me and I'll bury them for you...
