Hey guys,

I fished a father/son duo today. Started at the falls and the temp was in the mid 30's and didn't get much warmer than that. A few hits at the falls on a Stone/dropper combo and one nice splashy rise to a dead drifting wet fly in the film.

Today was pretty weird...the fish were not in the "fishy" water, they were in skinny water. They were not taking the nymphs very well at all but they were taking the wets really well. We landed no fish on nymphs for the first time in as long as I can remember, all fish were caught on winged wets today and the father almost caught a dozen. I had a couple of firsts as well. It sleeted/snowed several times throughout the day and I saw Caddis and BWO's during the sleet...I had never ran into that before. :blur:

(I just had to use one of the new smilies)

I do not expect the fishing to stay anywhere near what it was today, like I said, it was just....weird.

Sounds pretty good considering conditions.

Did you just stay at Rolf or go all the way to Blair???

I'm looking at possibly getting down Mar 31 - Apr 1st. i'll let you know.

Maybe Hank and cousin will float by. (what will you guys be in???)

We put in Saturday at Twin Bridges and took out Monday at Dawt. Incredible run of stream, never really been on a stream with such volume and yet such good gradient. Wonderful run. Fishing was what you might call "fair"--terrible on Saturday (we put in amid snow and sleet), a little better on Sunday and then quite good yesterday. We were spinfishing, throwing brokeback minnows and craws and little cleos and etc. Brown trout were pretty consistent yesterday out in the steady rolling flat sections. Also caught a few in current breaks just downstream of riffles. Rainbows were spotty.

We're mainly smallmouthers and the smallmouthing was pretty good yesterday. Cousin caught a nice fattie that I'll post if I can get to it. Some others just a little smaller. Smallies mainly caught out of slower water near wood structure. I imagine the smallmouth fishing can be excellent a little later in the season. Definitely felt the big fish potential.
