John Berry Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I floated a couple of clients from Cotter to Rim Shoals yesterday. In Cotter we caught several nice fish. At the bottom of Roundhouse we caught several really fat nicely colored rainbows on small sowbugs. Lunch at Rim. We fished Red Bud Shoals and picked up a bunch on black zebra midges and then the Caddis started coming off. We tagged several on the top but it was hard to get the drift in the boat with the high wind. We went down to the top of the riffle at Rim to wade and fished dries there. We picked up some really fine fish. An eighteen inch rainbow on the top. life is good! Terry Beeson Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 If the wind was like it was Saturday, I don't know how you did it, JB... At least up by BSD, you got a wind direction change between your backcast and forward cast and then another after the fly began to drop to the water and then again after it started to drift... Yep... an 18 incher off the top is a good day! Danoinark Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 John, what's a good caddis dry for that area? Also I assume an olive and partridge would be sufficient downriver of Cotter also? Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
John Berry Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 Dano, I am fishing a classic green elk hair caddis and the St vrain's caddis (also in green). This is an A. K. Best pattern that is basically an elk hair caddis with a hackle in front of the wing. It floats a bit higher and is a bit easier to see. I would recommend a partridge and green. The caddis coming off now have a pale to bright green abdomen and are a righteoug size fourteen. Good luck!
