troutchaser Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I'll be fishing the Beaver Tailwater for the first time next month, so I need to start tying flies for the trip right now. What flies do you recommend? I live in Springfield, MO, so I fish Taneycomo a lot, but I don't know if I need to make some changes to types or colors of my flies and streamers. I usually have a good arsenal of the following: Cracklebacks - Yellow, Olive Soft Hackles - Red, Black, Olive, Yellow, Wooly Buggers - Brown, Olive, Black Scuds - Gray, Tan How am I doin' so far? What do you recommend I use for the last part of April? Paul Rone
Guest flyfishBDS Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I'd add some olive scuds and a bunch of midges _ Zebra midge styles Our Cadion Midge, developed by one of our two guides Bryce Cadion is very effective going to be on the Spirit River books for 08 Tie is very simple TMc 2487 hooks 16-18-20 5/64 Gold Bead for 16s _ 1/16 for 18s 20s Brown/olive thread UTC 140 for 16s 70 for smaller Ultra wire red or green Brassie for 16s Small for 18-20 Swap thread to blue dun; bead to silver, rib to silver and you get the very hot blue dun Build 4 layers of thread only _ layer is head to tail or tail to head 5 turns of rib. Go fish http://www.beaverdamstore.com/gallery/d/38...ion_s+Midge.jpg for a pic Try also Copper/black
