Last time I went, I was just going to hang out with Dano. Dang if he didn't talk me into buying a couple pair of wading pants!

Yep... I'll never... (OK... NEVER say never)... I will USUALLY go into the outlet store before going to the big store...

The WJ ultralight rain jacket is more like a Frogg Toggs jacket than it is an "everyday" sort of jacket. It is for packing in your fishing vest/pack for emergencies. I have a few of them.

I also have a Stearns Mad Dog Gear camo breathable rain jacket that you can buy almost anywhere for under $50. That sounds more like what you are looking for. I bought it for teal season and turkey hunting. It's great. But it's too warm to wear in the heat of summer. Just right for Spring/Fall in the rain or anytime you need a light jacket.

The Cabela's Dry Plus jackets are nice too. And they are a very good value for the dollar.

As for comments about Frogg Toggs and the Bass Pro outlet store.

I go there way too much. Sometimes I have an itch and actually make a conscious decision not to go there because I'll always leave with something.

Anyhow, I've been looking at bargain Frogg Toggs for a year or so there and they have only had the size of medium. While I was searching for Goretex bib overalls, I discovered a pair of X-large Frogg Toggs, my size, in camo color. Reg price over $90.00 jacket and pants both on sale for $45.00, so I grabbed them. I now see Toggs are on sale at the big store for $38.00 (not sure). Is that for the whole suit or for each piece?

Speaking of Goretex bibs. I saw a guy buy a pair of Goretex bibs (either Winchester or Remington, not sure) for $75.00 last year. In the checkout aisle, he stated he didn;t really need them but he couldn't turn down such an offer. I would have got some too if I had the funds at the time. Last week, the only Goretex bibs they had were Redheads, reg $225.00 on sale for $110.00. I'm not a big friend of Redhead so I didn't move on them.

I talk to a few shoppers there once in awhile and discuss products and prices. What I have found out is that we sportsmen are competing with EBay businessmen who use this place as their wholesaler on a daily basis. I guess timing is imperative.

There are a LOT of eBayers combing through all of the sporting goods and electronics outlets to find stuff they can resell for a profit. I read somewhere that the # of people making their sole living from selling on eBay is larger than the # of full-time employees of any corporation by a pretty good stretch. I think many of remember one of our Ozarks fly anglers who was cleaning out the old Orvis outlet by the pallet load and reselling the stuff on eBay to the extent that Orvis made him persona non grata! LOL

I have tried both of the rain jackets you mentioned the columbia one i did not like because you cannot layer up underneath of it. The william Joseph one is very thin and will tear easy, i hate to say it but the simms rain jackets are the best just my opinoin but they will last you longer than two years that is why they have a lifetime warranty. I have owned the rivertek guide jacket for two years, i wear it night fishing so that i dont have wear a vest. It's awesome. Theres my 2 cents.

WJ has two NEW rain jackets out in their 2007 line. They both look way awesome! One is designed to be a cold-weather jacket and the other is designed for warm-weather rainwear. The ultralight rain jacket is still available as a pack jacket.

I have a patagonia SST jacket and it is nice, just to pricy, I usually where a frog togg jacket I bought at bass pro outlet for 15.00 it was just to cheap to pass up, I have wore that jacket for two years, and love it, I used it the whole month I was in new zealand, and yes it rained almost everyday, and it worked great, never a leak, and they pack down very small. I have a buddy selling complete frog togg suits right now, for just 28.99, PM me and I'll give you his # if you are interested. He owns the local gun shop.

Michael, talking about the low-end one. It's new. He has two other wading jackets that run about $120 and about $250 (approx). But they also have the "shell" version that is listed at $65 on the Redington website right now. I just happened to look at it this morning before I posted this.

It's called the Hunter River Wading Jacket.
