taxidermist Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Sunday evening I saw another set of inconsiderate anglers. Let me explain. My wife don't walk to well, she needs Knee replacement. So while I am getting the boat secured to the courtesy dock. another boater ran in at high speed let the trailer driver off and backed out of the dock. Problems. 1. He ignored the no wake buoys. 2. the wake caused my boat to brash against the dock, throwing my wife onto the dock. 3. Trailer driver just ran right passed her, no apology nothing, no help getting her to her feet. Now finally after all that. wife was on the way to our truck. The Violating boat and the trailer driver did a great job, back their trailer into the water and loading their boat. But they stopped just out of the water on the ramp, blocking our access to load our boat. The parking lot was empty sans four trucks and trailers, heck they had 1/2 acre or more to square their boat away but nope they don't care that someone else is needing to use the ramp. It's all about them screw anyone else. I did get their hull number and filed a report with the game warden about the violation of the "NO WAKE" Buoys. I also know who the boys were so I will be sending each one a letter and a the "Boating courtesy" paper from the AGFC. Guess maybe I am "OLD SCHOOL" but they still could have been loaded and out of the way without being rude and without risking hurting someone or damaging someone else's boat. Without blocking someone Else's access to load a boat. John
Terry Beeson Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 People never cease to amaze me at how inconsiderate they are of their fellow man. I know I'm not perfect in that regard, but I do try... Al Agnew Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Yep, it's unbelievable. You see it all the time. I try to avoid going into Walmart for many reasons, but last night I needed to pick up some groceries that only Walmart in our small town carries. Twice, I'm pushing a cart down an aisle, and one person has their cart parked, off to the side, room to get around it, no problem...until a lady (different one each time) beetles down the aisle and stops her cart directly beside the one other cart in the aisle, completely blocking the aisle, while she looks for something on the shelves 10 feet away! My wife and I call it "center of the universe syndrome", because these people seem to think that everything in the universe revolves around them. From the people who set up their lawn chairs on the boat ramp and have their bobbers out, and glare at you when you have the temerity to want to disturb their fishing by pulling your boat out of the water, to the party idiots on the river that decide that the very spot you're fishing is the perfect place for them to stop and swim, or the very piece of gravel bar you're eating lunch on is their picnic and beer swilling spot, to the bass boat motorhead who thinks that he deserves to fish that bank more than you do and swings right in front of you to start fishing just past the point you've reached along that bank. Thing is, most of the time, I don't even think they realize they're treating somebody else poorly...all they can think about is their own comfort and convenience. I got a million stories like that, but I need to watch my blood pressure.
Members TexomaOkie Posted April 17, 2007 Members Posted April 17, 2007 Al, I think you hit the nail on the head. They're so self-centered that they become oblivious to how their actions affect other people. Most of the time they truly believe they've done nothing wrong. It really upsets me when people are that way because I try to be considerate of others. I sometimes think I should treat them the same way, but then realize that wouldn't be maintaining a Christian attitude. Ultimately, I'm not responsible for their actions, only mine!
Terry Beeson Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 If everyone were just like me, the world would be a perfect place... Al, I like that "Center of the Universe Syndrome"... I'd like to use that... There will be a CUS telethon soon... Members TexomaOkie Posted April 17, 2007 Members Posted April 17, 2007 Terry, I apologize if you feel that I insinuated that I'm perfect. That was never my intent. I did say that I "try" to do the right thing. But, I understand I won't always succeed.
Terry Beeson Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 NO NO NO NO NO... My apologies, Tex, if I made you feel like that was MY intent. No - Nothing of the sort. I was merely stating MY feeling at times. I have to stop at times and look for my own faults. I've learned to look at some of those situations and try to view them as a possible reflection of my own self. Then make an attempt at adjustment in MY actions. I just wish some of those with CUS would do the same. Some of my pet peeves: 1. People who drive "slow" in the left lane. 2. People who block the aisle at the store. 3. People who will jump in front of you with two carts full of goods while you are holding a gallon of milk and a tube of toothpaste... or anything similar such as the "boat ramp" incident at the start of this thread. 4. Those that "write" checks (when the register can print them) and wait until the total is announced before they get their checkbook out of their purse or pocket. 5. Those that have not learned that you can swipe your card after the first item is scanned and you do NOT have to wait until everything is totalled. 6. Those that wait at a stop sign until you get "within range" and then pull out... and THEN go 10 mph slower than you. 7. People who do not know the traffic laws and the meaning of the word "YIELD"!!! 8. People who use the drive thru to order for 10 different people and insist on 10 separate checks. 9. People who think there vehicles are SO important that they will straddle a parking line to avoid anyone parking next to them. (OK.. and I INTENTIONALLY will park next to them and straddle the NEXT line... ) 10. Store clerks with a cell phone in their ear talking "trash" to a friend. I POd a clerk one time because I refused to let her ring me up or move until she hung up from talking on her cell to her friend about her boyfriend... And then I asked to speak to the manager or have a phone number to call the manager. She was not happy... but OH WELL!! 11. Bad service at a restaurant. You want me to leave a tip? You want me to come back another time? Treat me with GOOD service. 12. People who allow their kids to run amuck in a store, restaurant, or other public places... and those who allow their kids to continuously cry or throw a tantrum or scream or otherwise disrupt with very little or no dicipline. "Now Honey don't do that!" ain't helpin' matters, Mom!!! OK... and I admit, I'm guilty of a few of these at times... We are run amuck with inconsideration. My dad use to use an old Marine saying - "HURRAY FOR ME! F*%& YOU! I GOT MINE! HOW'R YOU DOIN'?" Our society has become oblivious and accepting to greed, pride, selfishness, and lust. We take pride in these attributes anymore. troutchaser Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Inconsiderate people certainly test my "Christian meekness factor" regularly. Hey, Al. When people block the aisle with their carts, you can do what I used to do. pick something really random off the shelf and put it in their cart when they aren't looking. The more off-based and wacky, the better. Adult incontinence products in a thirty-something's cart is sure to incite embarrassment at it's discovery. My wife won't let me do this any more, since my kids are around and watching what I do. She wants me to be a good example. Can you believe that? Paul Rone
taxidermist Posted April 17, 2007 Author Posted April 17, 2007 I admit I am not perfect, but I still fear Granny would reach out of her grave and slap the crap outta me if I am rude. While we are on peeves, how about those people who dont know or ignore the fact the on ramp is for accellerating to the speed limit or flow of traffic. Many times they dont see you have a truck or other vehicle beside you and cannot move out of their way. I never enter traffic at less than the speed limit, I also never drive in the left hand lane unless passing. All of the lower 48 states have a law stating slower traffic in the righthand lane. Even when the road is clear you are to drive in the righthand lane. Recently some Arkansas State Trooper have been writing tickets for left lane driving and impeeding the flow of traffic. Meaning if you are under legal speed limit and have a string of cars behind you. PULL OVER AND allow them around. I too have to agree with the post about people fishing at the launch ramps and even swimming at them. Me I had rather be somewhere out of the way, way out of the way.
SilverMallard Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Terry, my biggest pet peeve is the folks behind me who are always in such a G-D hurry! LOL FYI, that CC thing about swiping after the first item doesn't ALWAYS work. Many of those machines have to be reset manually by the subtotal key of the cashier before they will register your "swipe." And the swipe takes what? 1 second? If you're in that big of a hurry, you don't have time to shop. You know, I have done that "block the boatramp" thing without thinking. I felt like a heel for doing it. I'm usually very conscious of such things. Somehow, that day it didn't dawn on me that the guy in the pickup was pulling a trailer and I saw no other boats motoring about in the vicinity. Uh-oh! The boat he was going to pick up was tied to a covered dock a few feet from the launch. Without seeing a waiting boat the way I expected to, I didn't scan the parking lot for a waiting truck and empty trailer. I saw the truck out of my periferal vision, but didn't realize there was a driver sitting behind the wheel and an emptry trailer attached (due to the angle the trailer was out of plain view). Two days later, I saw the guy at the marina again and he asked if that was me. I said yes and he told me what I had done...politely. It had obviously offended him. And I was embarassed because I get torqued by inconsiderate people too...and try very hard never to be one. But in my observation, the most inconsiderate are usually not the slow-pokes. They are usually the ones in such a hurry to get nowhere. This little event taught me something, though. It made me stop and think that not ALL of these people have persoality problems/character flaws that cause them to be rude. SOMETIMES, it's just an honest mistake by folks who honestly try to be considerate and mannerly. That has caused me to give a bit more benefit of the doubt when I'm on the receiving end. But some situations are just obvious...like the one taxidermist described. You don't knock a lady out of a boat onto a dock and just act like it never happened. And if you didn't notice it, you need to slow down and pay more attention! I would have wanted to stomp a mudhole in those boys if it were my wife they did that to.
