Members Eric Jaeger Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 Stan and Carolyn Parker congratulations on the 2007 Orvis Outfitters of the Year. Your guides and staff are the best. Stan thanks for the great day on the water last month. I hope to get back there soon. P.S. Stan thanks for the photo of my first trout on a fly rod. Thanks Eric.
Thom Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I just got my orvis newsletter today and they are featuring Dogwood Canyon trips this summer. Around $400 for two day fly fishing school at the two streams there. Anyone attended Orvis schools or have any other info. I wonder if River Run outfitters is involved in the school. They are always recommended in the Orvis Newsletter as the local Taneycomo Orvis reps. Thom Harvengt
SilverMallard Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 The shop at Dogwood Canyon is also Orvis. This newsletter went to press before the award was announced. They'll be featured in the next one, and local press releases will be out soon. Brian Sloss Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I thought Dogwood Canyon was a Bass Pro property, did Orvis buy it out? www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Terry Beeson Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Politics and the fishing industry make for strange bedfellows... Orvis even recommends lodging at Big Cedar during the school... Orvis is merely renting the property for the school... Next thing you know Cabelas will be holding events at Big Cedar... Thom Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Even though Big Cedar Lodge shows Dogwood Canyon as an amenity of theirs in their video presentations what they don't tell you (unless you ask) is that you still must pay the fee's to fish there. The same as anyone just walking in of the street. Just a few of the smoke and mirrors BS that you get if you tour their property. Thom Harvengt
SilverMallard Posted April 27, 2007 Author Posted April 27, 2007 It is my understanding that there is a small fly shop out there that is an Orvis store, and that the "guides" are Orvis-endorsed guides. At one point, this was all spelled out on the Dogwood Canyon website. When was the last time you were in a White River Fly Shop (Bass Pro)? They've been selling Orvis for the past few years.
