am4mu Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 I have been reading the Cabelas catolg this morning and I am curious. Does anyone know who is manufacturing Cabelas flyrods and reels. Thanks, Doug Doug Kiefer Independence, Mo h: am4mu@comcast.net w: dougk@schulzetool.com
Dave Cook Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 I've asked that in the store and never got an answer. I bought the SLi rod kit for my wife to build. It's a nice rod. Tim G. [bluegill222@yahoo.com] is manager of the fly shop at the KCK store. I think this is their number 913.328.0322 x8274 . Maybe he can find out. Guest lbt Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 Who knows and who cares, the last time I bought a fly rod there and it was Sage it brook they told me they could do nothing for me and tryd to sell me another rod. I remember my buddy told me that it had a lifetime warranty on it, I tryd to tell the person working in the fly shop that, and he told me I did not know what I was talking about. I left mad. I got home and called Sage and I was right. They took care of the rod for me it was $30. I will never buy anything again from the big box store and I think that everyone of us on this forum should support the local fly shop. I now work only with the local guys. I realized right then and there the box store only cares about the money. The local guys care if you are learning and if you have fun at your hobby.
am4mu Posted April 30, 2007 Author Posted April 30, 2007 lbt, That is exactly why I was curious as their flyfishing catalog shows a 25 year warranty. Doug Doug Kiefer Independence, Mo h: am4mu@comcast.net w: dougk@schulzetool.com
Terry Beeson Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I suspect, but don't know, that their salesmen are on commission or at least a sales quota. I've been in that type job and some guys get the idea they do not want to handle any customer service issues... they just want to sell, so they will try to talk you out of anything but a sale. I have bought from the big box stores and will buy some items from time to time, but will give the local shops the first chance. I believe we need to support them as much as possible and I've always gotten MUCH better service from them. 3wt Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I was told at the store that it is G. Loomis for the higher end rods. lbt- You almost always have to deal directly with manufacturers for warranty. No manufacturer CAN help you with this. The warranty is between the manufacturer and the person who registers the warranty. Sorry about your bad experience, and I'm sure a local fly shop would have said the same thing, but at least helped you out with how to contact the right people.
Guest lbt Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I have since Brook another rod and happen to be in BCO and they said they will send it off for me. I think that is great that the guys over there will do that. I'm sure that other fly shops in the area will do the same.
Thom Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Most flyrods warrantees are backed by their manufacters. I have broken two orvis rods over time and they have a number to call. They give you a repair order number and then you ship it to them. They repair or replace the rod and return it for a $30 dollar S&H charge. My sons orvix got caught in the door on a trip and they actually upgraded him to the next better rod ($450 valued) when they returned his. My friend has a scott and they did much the same for him. My loomis was repaired and returned for S&H fee. Most retail stores don't do it for you. Thom Harvengt
DeepDiver75 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 The 3 top lines of Cabelas flyrods are manufactured by G.Loomis. I'm not sure where the lower priced ones are made. I give plenty of my business to the local flyshops also, but I have never had any issues with Cabelas return policies. If it's a Cabelas brand item and you have a problem with it or just don't like it they will take it back no questions asked. I own an Sli that I don't use much anymore but found it to be a great rod for it's purpose(and price).
