You might not be able to shut off the clicking. A lot of reels have a click on both the retrieve and the line out. Others don't. But there are only a few that have the option of turning the click on or off. Someone else may know for sure about that particular reel?

If you can't turn it off - I think you'll get used to it. All of my reels but one have a click on both and that's what I prefer.

It can be adjusted, bring it down next time you go fishing and I'll take a look at the reel. I fished an hour this afternoon, didn't see you down at the river, I stayed up near the lodge, I caught several fish in the hour I fished, caught them all on zebra midges.

i have two battenkill mid arbors... i don't know of any way to make it not click. i think they're pretty quiet. i'm playing with my 8-weight right now and when the arbor is off, it doesn't make any noise when i rotate the spindle.

i really wouldn't recommend trying to eliminate the noise. if you have your owners manual, it diagrams the assembly of the reel, so you could disassemble it and try to figure out which part creates the sound if you want to.

look at the bright side of the clicking, there's no sweeter sound than that of a fish taking line. besides, compared to other reels, its not loud at all.

The clicker in the midarbor battenkill is just that a clicker, if you remove it the drag stays the same and it doesn't void the warranty, at least according to orvis it doesn't. but the reel will be much quiter, and that is what some people like.

Look at this Orvis tecnical manual of the Mid Arbor reel.

http://www.orvis.com/orvis_assets/files/Ba...0Arbor.indd.pdf

If you take a small straight screw driver and take the screw out of the reel spool #21, the # 20 and #19 will come out with the #21 screw and your reel will be silent, put the 3 parts in a zip lock bag so you won't lose them just incase you want the clicker later. The reel will work just fine with out these 3 parts.

Timsfly is correct. I also own that reel. In the literature that came with the reel it tells you how to make this adjustment. Info for each of the reels that are sold by orvis is available on the net. I am left handed and need to change reels when I purchase them. The better reels allow you to do this. It does not void the warrantee. Just follow the instructions.

Again if you buy from a customer friendly vendor (mostly the local guy near you) he will help you with these issues. With reels like the Battenkill series there are no cheaper prices unless as in some cased the reel is being discontinued. BTW the clicking runs me crazy too. It can be minimized on the orvis but not completely eliminated in at least one direction.
