Members costanza Posted May 1, 2007 Members Posted May 1, 2007 Superfly, My brothers and I had the best bass fishing (largemouth) day of my life yesterday. We went to some private land within 20 minutes of your house. All I can say is that I tried to call you. As far as small fins, bronzies, green trout go, you can fish beautiful water very close to home with great success. A week ago monday, I fished a new spot, very nearby and caught seven with the largest at 14 inches. I've honed in (much trial and error) on a pattern of crayfish that emulates more than just a crayfish, that seems to consistently catch smallmouth. If you'd like some pics, let me know; you girlyman. p.s. Who started this whole bass craze??
Members Midge Posted May 1, 2007 Members Posted May 1, 2007 Costanza, You should have called me. I'd go fishing with you. Everyone else, Back to Superfly's question: Is the float from Cane to Greer good right now? Is there a good spot to camp above the greer put in? Is Cane to Greer mostly national forrest land?
snap Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Brian K...to answer your question, we (three of us) floated thomasville to cane Saturday of Memorial Day weekend two years ago. The water was lower at that time compared to any of my 6-8 trips since. We have a particular camp site or fishing spot below whiten that gives us a great guage of the river depth...since we used it as our base campsite for a week each of the last two Memorial Day weeks. We did come across a campground up there, but it seemed to be very close to Cane Bluff. i would hope to float that section again...but i am afraid I will not get on the river until Memorial Day week again.
Brian Sloss Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Midge, Cane to Greer is good right now and the smallies are picking up. You can find plenty of camping spots along the river, though not official float camps. It is only 7.5 miles from Cane to Greer. snap Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 You are correct! The upper river does not see much traffic. It is very possible that you will have the river to yourself...except for a cow or two...Be sure to bring a camera and enjoy your trip. Let us know how it went!
Brian Sloss Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 That shuttle is $30. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
BrianK Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 thanks again fellas for the good info. Had a great couple days on the river this past wknd. Definitely worth a return trip but will spend less time in the cow water. Gave a more detailed report separately also. Brian
