I did some of those things in my more agile days. One does crazy things when you are young, but thankfully, most grow out of it. We moniter what the young ones watch on TV, so why not in public. Would I take my kids on a float trip now? Depends, I would do my homework to find out what all takes place on the river in question.

A buddy of mine was on a family trip to California back in the mid 80's. While walking the sidewalks in downtown San Francisco, there was a large group of motorcycle riders that were protesting. Guess what they were protesting. This is what the signs said...Dikes on Bikes. They were cruising around on cycles without shirts on. Anyone should be able to run around without a shirt on, was their thought. He explained the best he could to his 9 year old son. To this day his son still remembers that.

On another side note, my brother took some highschool kids on a canoe trip Saturday. He said the AG&F was out in droves writing tickets left and right. One of the kids in his group brought a life jacket from home, but was written, if I rememeber right, a $125.00 citation for not having a Coast Gaurd approved life jacket. So, they are not picking on just one group.

Well I'm glad to see that local leaders care enough about their natural resource to stop the erosion.

I'm coming from central KY for a four night stay in June. I do plan on drinking plenty of cold beer, fishing, and canoing. Some of these posts kinda have me worried...Is my camp going to be intruded by police 10 times a day, 4 days straight? Will I get locked up for drinking beer while fishing?

Any input is appreciated. I'm no hell raiser, but I don't want to spend my vacation being treated like one either!

Thanks

My opinion only, and I have nothing against drinking a cold one. Here, if you are caught with a open alcohol container in the public, you can be arrested for public intoxication. It's at the officers discretion. If the person that is drinking is an idiot, you can bet a ticket or even jail will occur.

The good 'ole days are gone. When I was in school, the local beer supplier was one that would sell it to you during the day then confiscate it that night if you got out of line, then turn around the next day and resale to you again. A very good scam to say the least, but it keep me out of the pokey.

Rusty, where's "here?"

Personally, I like that idea. I've enjoyed plenty of cold ones in my day, but I would not take my family on a river for fear of what they'd see or hear. To me, that kind of behavior belongs at home or at a bar, not in public.

DRUNKFISHIN: It has nothing to do w/ communism. Besides, a police state or dictatorship is not communism, either. If you had kids, would you want exposed to random profanity, nudity, violence and drug use? Honestly, answer that question. Would you let your kids or nieces and nephews over to my house knowing I'm drunk off my a$$ exposing myself, yelling f-this and f-that?

Unfortunately, I would say that they idiot drunks and party crowd have ruined it for those who just want to have a cold adult beverage and a relaxing float. Also, a lot of the problem is underage drinking as well. I think you will see a heavy handed law enforcement presence early in the season to get the word out. But, if you are not causing a scene or acting stupid, I don't think you'll have anything to worry about.

To drive 8 hrs and spend my valubale vacation time and money in a police stake out zone isn't very inticing.

I'm no hell raiser, and don't want the local Barney Fife's treating me like one because they have an agenda.

I guess I will hold onto hope and see how things progress over the next month, but I fear a change in destination may be in order.

YOU KNOW MOST OF YOU MAKE GOOD POINTS, AND I AGREE WITH MOST.

BUT IF YOU KNOW A PLACE IS A LITTLE CRAZY, DONT BIT?? ABOUT IT, DONT GO

THATS LIKE SAYING OWWW DOWNTOWN IS NO PLACE FOR KIDS, ITS DANGEROUS.

AND THEN THE NEXT DAY BRINGING YOUR KIDS THERE. I HATE PEOPLE LIKE THAT.

IF YOU KNOW, :excl: DONT COMPLAIN, DONT GO.

IM WITH YOU DUBYA. IF I CAN NOT ENJOY MY SELF BECAUSE OF ELEVATED ENFORCMENT

AND GET HARASSED. THERE WILL BE ACTION TAKEN, NOT THE GOOD KIND
