Rusty Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 YOU KNOW MOST OF YOU MAKE GOOD POINTS, AND I AGREE WITH MOST. BUT IF YOU KNOW A PLACE IS A LITTLE CRAZY, DONT BIT?? ABOUT IT, DONT GO Aren't the rivers for everyone to enjoy, legally?
Terry Beeson Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 THATS LIKE SAYING OWWW DOWNTOWN IS NO PLACE FOR KIDS, ITS DANGEROUS. IF YOU KNOW, DONT COMPLAIN, DONT GO. Well, let's just issue everyone "downtown" guns and knives and let them have at each other then... Hell, better yet, just ship 'em all to the middle east where that's about the way it is now... If the Spring River is going to be a place that does not like drunks and druggies, then if you're a drunk or druggie, don't go... makes sense to me... TIGHT LINES, YA'LL "There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process." - Paul O’Neil
RiverRunner Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 This is the same garbage that the drunks who have taken over other area waterways say: If you don't like obnoxious drunks, lewd behavior, stripper shows, and drug use, don't go. Well I think that is a load of BS. These streams are there for everyone to enjoy in peace and without the risk of being harrassed and attacked by those whose sole purpose is to act as stupid as possible. If you want to get drunk, act stupid, and watch ladies strip, there is a place to do that if you want to. The place to do it is not on a public riverway where someone might be floating by with their kids. For some reason, drunks and the party crowd believe that if they take over a certain river, its theirs for keeps. I've been on the Spring River and I've seen stuff that belonged behind closed doors with a cover charge and a bouncer. I've seen one person beat within an inch of their life with a boat paddle, I would be willing to bet that the incident was helped by excessive use of alcohol. Its alright to come to the river, float, camp, enjoy a few adult beverages, and have a good time. Its not OK to get completely wasted and make everyone in three counties know about it. So leave the kegs, beer bongs, stripper poles, and jello shooters at home. If you can't stand following the rules (and not breaking the law), then stay at home. I'd just assume you stay at home and let everyone who can act like adults enjoy the river.
Members dubya Posted May 22, 2007 Members Posted May 22, 2007 The issue really seems to be those that have a total lack of class, and disregard for all around including themselves. I understand the thought of not going someplace because you know it's not safe, party haven, yada yada yada.... The Spring River is a natural resource like no other I've been able to experience. I'm from KY and driving 8 hours. I'm driving those 8 hrs becasue there is no natural resource on par with the Spring in KY, IN, OH, TN, etc... The Spring River is like an awesome sand castle, and all these yahoos causing problems are the hurricane. I agree something must be done to save the sand castle from the raging hurricane, or a rare resource will be ruined forever. I really want to take my kids, and hopefully grandkids there one day. I'm just sad that the situation has come to this and that law enforcement has to harrass everyone in hopes that they weed out the masses of drunks, drug users, whatever.
Snow Fly Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 I have been on rivers in Missouri when the minority went out of their way to ruin an outing for the majority. I agree with RiverRunner do whatever makes your day but do it at home and not make yourself a pain for everyone else around you! One Saturday {my mistake} we were on a float with numerous drunks showing everyone how not to act in public, and law enforcement was hitting the area hard. No one was harrassed that didn't already deserve to be questioned ticketed etc. These people were breaking the law and received what they were looking for ATTENTION. Maybe they never received attention at home when they were younger or were never taught right from wrong. Dubya go and enjoy your trip on the river and you will find the only people who will harrass you will be the people who don't know how to act in public. "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
Bill Anderson Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I have a drastic, very practical, but totally unrealistic suggestion as how to handle the drunks and druggies....shoot 'em. Then turn the carcasses into fish pellets for the hatcheries. There's nothing on this earth I hate worse than a low class, drunken slob. Oh well. Like I said, not a very realistic solution, but one can dream, can't one? I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. If you do, your life will never be the same.
