Fiddling around this morning looking for a few resources for casting clinic/classes and stumbled across this great article from ED JAWOROWSKI in Fly Fisherman Magazine. I remembered reading it at the time and thinking cool.

http://flyfisherman.com/skills/ejbackcast/index1.html

Most of us were self-taught, and few of us ever video our casting technique. so its pretty hard to tell what we are doing wrong. I have managed to get over my embarassment at casting in front of experts, so try and wheel it out a couple of times a year just to fine tune my technique. But if you can't do that this article provides some good ideas on how to diagnose common problems from the shape of your loops _ or lack thereof.

And believe you me Ive made several blues on very embarassing stages LOl Most notably one night after Conclave two years ago when I "lost" my cast in a huge case of the yips. Fair dinkum I couldn't hit water _ and I was standing in it. And I was fishing with two guide mates. Bad words were said.

Anyway hope this is some useful reading

Cheers

Steve

Lefty, Joan Wulff, Mel Kreiger's video/dvds are great. Just have to remember style differences between them as opposed to the priciples Ed talks about

I'm trying to find a piece Bruce Richards wrote somewhere which was even more comprehensive on diagnosing technique flaws from loop shape.

Cheers

Had a lot of fun with you guys, always glad to help people out with their casting.

And for the compliment ty, distance is practise. But like those roll casts I was showing Mrs D there's a whole bunch more in fishing type casts.

See ya soon
