I thought I'd share this pic from last summer. I slowed the shutter speed down just a little to allow for more exposure. Sometimes it works well, sometimes not. I particularly like the reflection of the tree in the water. I entitled this photo "Solitude."

Nice picture, Patrick: When you want to increase the exposure for situations like this, point the camera and the center focus square towards a darker part of the landscape and push the shutter button half way down to set the exposure. Then simply move the camera to frame the picture wanted. Then make the exposure. The down side of this is that it may take a couple of tries to obtain the balance you want.
