perchjerker Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 In June I was going to Gatlinburg Tenn. Anyone have any recommendations on where to Fly Fish or a local fly shopI can go to to get the Tenn. skinny on where, what & how to catch some of thier trout.
am4mu Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Check out my post of yesterday under general discussion titled "wife layed down the law". The guys came up with some excellent and appreciated suggestions. Doug Doug Kiefer Independence, Mo h: am4mu@comcast.net w: dougk@schulzetool.com
Members Rick F Posted May 25, 2007 Members Posted May 25, 2007 There is a pretty reputable shop in town. Can't remember the name, I haven't been down there since 99 but I do remember finding them on the gatlinburg web site under fishing. They were pretty helpful then and I assume they would still be. Good luck and the scenery is incredible. Take a camera.
fly2fish Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 As you come into Gatlinburg from Pigeon Forge at the main intersection turn left and their is a small strip mall on the right. The fly shop is upstairs above a pizza place I think. They have reports posted for various areas in and around the park. I would try Abrams Creek on the Cades Cove loop on the west end of the park. There is or used to be 2 kinds of license you could get a Tenn. state license or a park only license. Like I was told before I got there expect fewer and smaller fish than around here, but they are wild trout in a mountain setting.
BrianK Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Was there back in about 97 and yeah it's beautiful. Fished the Pigeon R. for a few hrs just above Gatlinburg and waded up into the natl park. Did ok for not knowing what i was doing. Kinda strange to park in a hotel parking garage and walk to the trout stream....gets pretty remote fast though. didn't see another person. Mainly used egg patterns if i recall. Good luck. I think a recent issue of Fly Fisherman had an article about fishing for backcountry brookies in the Smokies. check it out. bk
