Members catfish Posted May 31, 2007 Members Posted May 31, 2007 Terry Beeson, Being from Conway County have you ever made the picnic up by Center Ridge. I think its coming up about (?) the 3rd weekend in June. I am going to be looking for a some of that good Italian sausage. Do you know a source for other times of the year? One time a year just isn't enough. Any info greatly appreciated. A friend from Botkinburg, Arkansas.
Terry Beeson Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Made the picnic? Hell, I went to elementary school at Center Ridge with most of the DeSalvos, Paladinos, Rossis, Harts, and Andrews kids... My band played the NYE party at Catholic Point with Dago Red flowing until about 2 am followed by HOMEMADE Italian sausage and biscuits and scrambled eggs... There are several picnics/bizzares around there - Catholic Point, Saint Vincent, and Sacred Heart in Morrilton. Don't know the dates, but can get the info for you. A bit off season for Italian sausage, but if you stop by the Andrews Liquor Store just south of Center Ridge, or Rossi's Winery just south of there, they can clue you in. Sacred Heart Bizzare is THIS WEEKEND!!!!Click here for more info... The spaghetti supper will rival the one at Catholic Point/St Joseph... If you like Bluegrass music, the Wooten Brothers show is August 2,3,4 there also at Roger Wooten Memorial Bluegrass Park. I went to school with the Wootens and knew Roger well - one of the best fiddle players around - before he was tragically killed in an auto accident back in the 80s. If you stop in the liquor store, ask them if they know me or my sister, Nicki Mourot (pronounced "morrow".) I bet they'll know one of us... or my mom... Tell 'em I sent you on a "wild Italian sausage" chase... By the way... You don't happen to know a girl around Dennard named Brenda with the nickname "Bo" do you? Or a guy named Donald "Bear" Treet from around Bee Branch? Members catfish Posted May 31, 2007 Author Members Posted May 31, 2007 Terry. Thanks a lot for the helpful information. Have a lot going on this weekend, but I may try to swing by the school at Morrilton Friday night. The Wootens used to come to my Aunts house and play music with her husband (Melvin Bramlett) years ago. Used to hear them play a lot. That was back when the kids were growing up. Seems like the Treet name is familiar to me but my memory isn't the best now days. May come to me later. Dennard is out my back door, but I can't say that I know a Brenda. I have a decoration and family get together to attend this weekend. But if I can work it I would like to get to Scared Heart. Let you know if I turn up anything. Thanks again. Lee
Terry Beeson Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Now where do I know that name - Melvin Bramlett? My mom taught Roger and Skippy, but the other boys were older... Another ol' time bluegrasser would be Boone Carlon whou would actually put on fiddle clinics at several bluegrass festivals around. Boone grew up in my grandparent's and parent's back yard. In fact, my dad use to say that Boone and a couple other of the Carlon kids ate dinner at their house more than at their own. And in fact, he is building a house next door to my mom now. As for the "locals" I asked about, my band use to play a lot at the Junction 659 Club there in Choctaw and those two were big fans and regulars when we played there. In fact, when we broke up, our last gig was there and we presented Donald with one of our band signs to show our appreciation for being there every time we played an even travelling a long distance to hear us at other clubs. Oh... by the way... one of my Christmas presents from my sister this year... a jar of Italian sausages from one of the Andrews men from Catholic Point. Now if I can just get her to give me 12 jars so they will last all year... Members catfish Posted June 17, 2007 Author Members Posted June 17, 2007 Well Terry I made it down to the Catholic Point Picnic this afternoon. Had my fill of that good ole Homemade Italian sausage and everything else thrown in with it. They sure turn out fine vittles down there. I checked out in their country store about 4:00 pm and I was already to late. They had sold out of jars of sausage already. One of the ladies said they didn't have much for sale this year as they had sold a lot of extra at the Spring dinner. I never seem to know when the spring dinner is and miss it. If you know of a set time like this one (third weekend in June) advise me. I didn't think to ask after I was hit with sold out. Brought several to go plates back for my shut in parents and other family members. I failed to make it down to the one at Scared Heart. Had a family get together and decoration to attend. When my sausage craving gets bad again, I'll try your recommendation and hit them down at the liquor store and see what I find. You said it was sort of off season for sausage. When is best time Fall??

Members catfish Posted June 18, 2007 Author Members Posted June 18, 2007 Yea Cardiac the beer was present and games of all kinds. Lots of good stuff for sale.
Terry Beeson Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 There are four of those type festivals down there - Catholic Point, St Vincent, Sacred Heart, and St Elizabeth. ALL have great food and games. Ain't NUTHIN' like that Italian Sausage though... Hey... Catfish... Go to Andrews Liquor Store just south of Center Ridge, ask for "Hootie" and tell him I sent you for sausage. I bet he can find a jar or two for you. If not, he can get some when they start killin' and stuffin' and smokin' again... Members catfish Posted June 18, 2007 Author Members Posted June 18, 2007 Where is the St. Elizabeth festival located. I am familiar with the others but it doesn't ring a bell right now. "Ain't NUTHIN' like that Italian Sausage though..." HOW TRUE. That has got to be the best stuff going. Thanks for the info about Andrews. I'll head down that way some time and see what I can come up with.
Terry Beeson Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 St Elizabeth is south of Morrilton on Hwy 9. After you cross the Arkansas River, you'll come to the town of Opello. From there, you can go toward Petit Jean Mountain and before you get to the mountain, you'll see a sign pointing to St Elizabeth on your left. OR you can go south of Opello on 9 and St Elizabeth will be down a road on your right. Not sure when the dinner is there...
