Zach Bearden Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Alrght well I entered my 1st competition this weekend and I won the advanced class with a cast of 86ft 10in but I know that it was a small cast for a big competition... I was wondering where I could go to a local competiton that is a larger one. thanks guys! (and ladies) "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. Brian Wise Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Zach, Great cast man! 86'in competition is pretty stellar and especiall since it was your first comp. Pretty much the only competitions that are pretty close are at the Conclave and Sowbug (i think there is one at the sowbug) held in Mtn Home Arkansas. Last year there was going to be a casting comp at the Show Me Games but only 2 spectators showed up so it was nixed. I really want something to happen in Missouri with these kind of comps....there is so much to be learned from them. Can I ask where the comp you won was? Good Work Brian My Youtube Channel
Rusty Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 That is a great accomplishment Zach. Let me guess, you did that with the 6'6" Eagleclaw Featherweight with a #22 dry fly. lol
Zach Bearden Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Ah Rusty I wish I could do that... Lol no the rod was a Bass Pro 270 with matched line but was a cheap line... It was at the Broken Arrow Bass Pro shops. "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. Competed Czech Republic. 7th Place Team Member: 2010 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. Brian Wise Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 There is a casting competition at Bennett at the Trout Fishing Showcase, just can't remember when it is. It was my first comp last year. Brian My Youtube Channel
Don Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Zach, What was the weight and length of the rod you used? Thanks.....Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Terry Beeson Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Do it with NO rod... just with your hand/arm... Hey Rusty... I had my EC 6-6 with 6wt line at the mini-conclave Saturday. We shoulda had a contest with it... (Bet Dave W woulda won, tho... ) Several guys did put their paws on it and try it out and were impressed with that li'l ol' $15 rod... I thought Don was gonna sneak it out to his truck! Zach, I'm impressed! 86 feet is nothin' to sneeze at for sure!! Are you wanting to compete for cash and prizes only or "just for fun" and maybe a trophy? For sure, you should get in on the casting games at Conclave in October. BTW... how do you like that BP 270? Don Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Here's one for the big boys: http://www.americancastingassoc.org/events...l_schedule.html I was impressed with Terry's little Eagle Claw/Medalist combo. Since I had my hands on that one, I have aspirations to own one myself. I wonder how far the Rajeff brothers could cast that rig? Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
motroutbum Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 or you could do the best of the west..... There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Brian Wise Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 The Best of the West really is something else. Nothing like people stacked 5 and 6 deep on each side of the 180' casting lane watching you cast. Have you thrown there motroutbum? Brian My Youtube Channel
