Guest flyfishBDS Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 After almost four years at the Beaver Dam Store its come time for a change of scenery and some new challenges. On June 20 I start a new position as manager of the Mountain River Fly Shop in Cotter. It's a great opportunity to work in an already very good Fly Shop and share a role in leading it to becoming a truly great one. It's with a few mixed feelings to leave the Dam Store. I can't begin to describe what an education its been since being hired by Charlotte Downey, then going through the acquisition of the Store by Spider Creek Resort owner Peter Godfrey on October '05. Charlotte taught me fly shop retailing and Peter gave me the freedom to put it into effect. The Fly Shop can now really hold its head up as the place to visit for the ins and outs of fishing the Beaver Tailwater (and others) and the things you need to fish it. The Beaver Tailwater is improving rapidly returning to being a true Ozark trout fishery, (instead of being just a very good US water), within a couple of years its going to be great again. Add it to your list of waters to fish. Drop in and yarn with Bryce Cadion, my mate and guide store colleague and fly designer, who will carry on the work at the store. He's a very good guide, and Dam good fun to be around. Bryce will be taking over all the bookings after the 18th. Ive been calling our future bookings to let people know but if I haven't reached you yet, rest assured you going to be in good hands. But really this message is to thank all the Dam Store customers and guide clients over the past few years, so many of you have become friends. A Fly Shop's character isn't just defined by the owners, or those that run it or work inside it _ you all have been as much a part of the Dam Store as myself and Bryce. I'll miss the banter, the stories, and sharing the ups and downs in your personal lives on your regular visits. I'll be in the store on my usual days until the 16th so please drop by in your in the area. I'd also like to thank Phil for this place and the frivolity, fellowship and bloody good advice from all the regulars here _ even the debates LOl. Not that I won't be posting, just back with a new username and profile after the 18th LOl The Ozarks really have become my second home, I love it here. Its given me a new career, a place I feel at home, a gorgeous new wife Rabecca and a family, Derrick Crystal and Lynsey. I also owe a great deal to the first two fly fishers I met in Arkansas, and two of my greatest mates, Mike McLellan and Todd Moncrief, from McLellan's Fly Shop in Fayetteville. They are as much to thank (blame LOL) for getting me into the fly shop business, as well as for their friendship, advice, and fishing knowledge over my time in Arkansas. Hopefully we will get more fishing time together now I'm going to be in Cotter LOL. There have been many many more too reps and buddies Cary Marcus, Jim Shulin and Eric Kraimer. Some of the best guides anywhere Ive been like Jimmy T, Ken Richards, Davy Wooten and John Wilson thank you; Rob Sloane my publisher back in Oz, who I must get over here one day and to everyone else Ive missed - Thank You All for getting me to this point in my life. I couldn't be happier with how its worked out. Oh and come visit me in Cotter Cheers Steve

Best Wishes.....Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Terry Beeson Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Dang, Steve... I had an interview in Siloam Springs yesterday and thought I would get to spend some time on the Beaver tail waters with you if I got the job, but that's OK... Congrats on the new job! I try to stop at Mountain River when I'm in Mt Home (if the wife is not with me giving me dirty looks when I whimper as we drive by...) So I'm sure I'll see you there! But beware... You know who some of your new neighbors will be... and in addition, Cindy has a lot of relatives there...
