Three weeks ago, my wife had taken her parents dogs to the vet. She came home all excited because the clinic had a Cairn Terrier puppy they were going to give to a good home. We loaded up and went back to the clinic so all of us could make a sound decision whether it should come home with us. Immediately, I was in the minority, and the puppy (Belle) came home with us. This is when all the trouble started, to make a long, sad story short, the puppy became very ill and had to be put down.

After being gone all last week, I have had time to think about the impression the puppy had on my family, including myself, I decided to locate another one. I need to locate someone that sells Cairn Terrier puppyies. So if anyone has any leads please reply to this topic via PM's with names and phone numbers. Any place within 150 miles of NE Oklahoma will be great. Thanks in advance for all the leads.

Dave, You have no idea. Three daughters and one son. All of which have me wrapped around their finger. Like I said in the first post, they wanted the dog, but guess who lets its sleep with them? Thats right, me. I am such a sucker/sap.

Don't they bark up a storm ? My brother has one, and its a nightmare dog IMO.

This struck pretty close to an "I'm in touch with my less masculine side" admission.. You had better make a B-line for the nearest bar and redeem your masculinity.. lol

seriously, kudos to you for being a good husband and father.. Same reason I have a Pomeranian that I hate to love..

One of my neighbors had a cairn terrier for many years. He was a great dog. Feisty as heck. Friendly to people but wanted to fight every other male dog he saw. My family has welsh corgi's and the cairn would always pick a fight with my male corgi whenever he saw him. He always lost (our corgi was just bigger and stronger) but the terrier would never give up or give in.

Even though small I would view a cairn as a pretty masculine dog (like our corgis). I'm glad you were able to find another. Kids deserve a good dog.

Greg,

Corgi's are great dogs! About 14 years ago my wife wanted us to get a dog and our compromise was a Corgi. (I wanted a Blue Heeler) Anyway, my wife said that this was going to be her dog. So she and the dog took all the Obedience training classes available. I started out going to the classes and watching them, but, I had to stop going because the dog would listen to my wife when I walked in the door. It turns out that Ally, the dog, thought that I was the Alpha Dog in the pack. Anyway, to make a long story short, it turns out that the dog only had eyes for me.

Ally was great with the kids. When they were young, she would herd them around the yard, dig in the sandbox with them and slide down the slide with them. She always had a smile on her face. She started think that she was one of the kids and we got another corgi so that she could have some dog companionship. Ally and Gabby were both Welsh Corgi's.

Ally died a couple of years ago and I fear that Gabby may not have many years left. Welsh Corgi's are a great breed and I encourage anyone to get this breed if they are looking for a good family dog. One note of caution, this breed REALLY sheds. A really good brushing when they start will help keep it in control. Now that I've started tying flies, I look back on all that dubbing material that went to waste.

DaddyO thanks for the reply. Always enjoy hearing about Corgis. We too had a family Corgi (Corky) that was wonderful with our kids and very much a part of our family. Heaven help the person that spoke harshly to one of the kids when he was around. He would even snarl at me if I was scolding them! He passed away a few years ago at the age of 16. We currently have 2 Corgi's (Kari and Ringo). All 3 of ours have had distinctly different personalities but each has been a delight.

Just a wonderful breed. I agree about the shedding. My wife and I have said many times that is their only fault (the heavy shedding).
