steve l Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Looking for any reports on if the flood opened or cleaned off any of the gravel bars? Many of the gravel bars, especially those we considered to be back-ups, were closing off due to weeds by last year. Any new ones? Any of the old ones gone? Looking for reports from Greer down to 142.
snap Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Plenty of nice gravel bars first week of June from Turner to Riverton. The first shoals past Turner, across from the bluff and on the right side of the river, was in great shape. The shoals at Horseshoe bend, again on the right side of the river, was probably even in better shape. My favorite spot below Whiten allowed us to walk barefooted...lots of sand....I think the gravel bars are there for you ...take your pick!!!
steve l Posted June 18, 2007 Author Posted June 18, 2007 Thanks Snap. That first spot you mentioned is our usual first night spot. Is the spot you mention below Whitten where a spring seeps out of the gravel? If so, that's our usual second night spot. It's now known as Happy Toes, recalling the time we sat on a log that used to be there while we dangled toes in the water having a beer before dinner while the kids played. Any other reports out there - any from below 160?
snap Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Steve, your welcome!!! The second spot actually had two springs seeping through! How many will be in your group?
steve l Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 It will be myself, my two brothers & 5 of our kids. The annual 5 night trip from Greer to 142. We just take our time & fish the heck out of the river. Have watched more & more gravel get covered w/weeds, so the flood last year was nice to see.
snap Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Sounds like a good time. All of the gravel bars we talked about will have plenty of room for your group. There was also lots of firewood to be had. I just wish the group that started the fireplace below whiten would have placed it on the big rocks instead of on the sand...they took up a campsite...can only get 4 tents comfortably instead of 5 tents...for those who snore in our group.
