Mikey Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Went camping with the in-laws over the weekend. They took us to Blue Mountain. I've never been before...seems like just another generic River Valley type lake. Fishing looked awful, no cover and whatnot...not that big. Swimming area was worse....anyways, we stayed at the Outlet area on the back side of the dam and I fished the small pools under the campsite. Over the weekend we caught a lot of perch and a few catfish. The highlight was this 8 pound drum I caught my first night there right at dark. He hit on a large rebel crickhoper and nearly swallowed it. Had to dig it out with the pliers. Took 10 minutes on my ultra-light rigged with 4#. -Mikey Each time I buy a new fly............ My wife gives me the same look........ I give her when she buys another purse... ..............................

gonefishin Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Big and ugly but fun to catch and not bad eating. You gotta score them before you fry them tho cuz they got lots of bones. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759

gonefishin Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Those things sure make a strange noise. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
Thom Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 I know the drum make a strange sound by themselves but if you put a few fiddlers in the grease with them they can almost play bluegrass. Just make sure the grease is hot enough before you put them in the pan or they may taste a little crappie. I know those puns sound a little fishy but it's the best I can do this early in the AM on monday. BTW Mikey....Great picture. Thom Harvengt
Terry Beeson Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Blue Mountain Lake is just what you said, Mikey. There is an "art" to fishing those lakes with much success, but BML is not on the top of anyone's list in my opinion. If you were looking for Crappie, you should have gone a bit east to Nimrod... Trolling for Crappie in the channel on Nimrod can have some REALLY good results. But... Nice Drum... I bet it WAS fun on a 4 lb ultralight... taxidermist Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Drum will fillet out just like a bass or walleye. there are not a lot of bones. Some really nice thick fillets, one of the few fish that I think really grill well.
