Well, with all the rain that filled the lakes up we were blown out for the better part of last week. On the falling water Woolies, San Juan Worms, and huge Stones did pretty well. Believe it or not the water is pretty much back to normal, that "flush" was exactly what we needed.

Sounds like fishing will be pretty good if the rain holds off. Any dry action over that way, Brian?

Terry,

Very little to no dry fly action on the river for the most part anyway. The Tricos are coming off all the time but no risers to them....or very little anyway.

They like soft hackles though :)

Brian,

I'm be staying at ROLF on the 14th through 17th of August. Never fished the North Fork before. Any suggestions on flies/sizes I should start tying for the trip? I know it's like predicting the weather, but any lead would be helpful.

Thanks

Growler,

Being this far away from the time you are coming down I would hate to "guess" so I'll give you the patterns I would not go to the river any time of year without:

Black Stone #8-12

Golden Stone #10-14

Prince Nymphs #10-18 (pretty broad range of sizes but for sure have some)

Hare's Ears #12-16 (also flash-back)

Pheasant Tails #12-16(also flash back)

Red Fox Squirrel Nymph #10-14

Crackleback #12-16

Bead-Head Crackleback #12-16

Soft Hackles

Woolies

Various Wet Flies

when all else fails i'll fall back on the old egg patterns too- pink, peach, etc.....

or maybe when the egg fails, i'll go to all the above ; )

I didn't get a report out but last day i was down was Sat Jun 30th just before the skies opened up.

Water was in good shape and very clear but didn't do all that well.

Caught 3 fish at The Falls on.....pink egg.

Fished the other good riffle/ run below the falls (Jack's riffle i think?) for a while but no luck.

Rained about 3 inches that pm and the river turned into a raging mess before my eyes. Hopefully the flush will help some.
