Greg Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 I've just got a question for John Berry or anyone else knowledgeable about past generation patterns. My wife and I are planning on coming to the White/Norfork river area the 1st weekend in Aug. I know there are no guarantees - but is there generally wadable water on one river or the other in Aug? I live in Spfld, MO and consider Taneycomo my home waters and generally through the summer they leave the water off in the mornings and generate in the afternoon and/or evening. Is the White/Norfork similar? We came down last year and there was not much generation but that was in the spring. We had a wonderful time. I just don't want to make a wasted trip if it can be helped. Also are there any decent places to wade and fish when they are generating? I know a couple on Taney but I'm just not that familiar with the White and Norfork. John Berry Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Greg, I expect a similar pattern here. I have begun posting an indepth fishing report here every Thursday to help anglers like yourself. I try to identify the pattern and predict generation. That said, there is no guarantee. They are currently a bit over pool and the heavy generation has scaled back a bit. In fact, as I write this the white has been off for fourteen hours. When there is low generation (say 2000cfs or less) you can wade at Jenkins Creek or the back of the island at Rim Shoals. Go to Rim Shoals Trout Dock and talk to Gary or Paula Flipin to arrange a water taxi to get there safely. They will come back and pick you up if the water rises. Members Robert R. Posted July 18, 2007 Members Posted July 18, 2007 Mr. John - Being here in MS, so far from the action, I for one can tell you I certainly appreciate your reports and insight on those waters. Guys like you and Mr. Davy and the others who post regularly on here take a lot of guess work out of the equation for folks living away from the area. Wish I had found these sites years ago! I am trying to get a trip up for the weekend of the 28, so I have been watching the boards closely. You probably don't rememeber me, but I believe we met one day last year, standing in the parking lot at Rim waiting for a nasty storm front to move through. As far as generation, I've always said that the best way to get them to turn the water on at the Norfork, was for me to put my money in the box at McLellands . I wish there was still a box there to put money in!! Really hated to see them close that down. One of my very fovorite places to fish. Hope to see some of you guys "in" the water soon.
Greg Posted July 18, 2007 Author Posted July 18, 2007 John thanks for the info. And I do appreciate your reports and information as well. Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
John Berry Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Glad you guys can use it. I will post my weekly report in the morning. I spent the afternoon doing some learned research at Rim Shoals. Members Steve Dally Posted July 20, 2007 Members Posted July 20, 2007 Might even end up as neighbors John, was house hunting not too far from your place in Cotter last night. I'd have been getting in more "research" too but i keep getting off work about 30 minutes before the water has been rising at Roundhouse. I gotta go to Rim instead. Tuesday Bec and fished at the Dam when they turned the water off, (it was a quick change of plan we geared up for 2 units) she got some nice fish on dries, and got busted off by a beauty. Then, after the water came on, head down stream. If your willing to move you can get a lot of wading done in these generation patterns. Much more fun than Beaver or Taney, where you get blown out. And I'm learning these backroads too now LOL We also have a weekly report (and much more info videos articles) every week in our weekly email Might even end up as neighbors John, was house hunting not too far from your place in Cotter last night.
