If you saw me fishing at Roaring River with a 7'6 4wt Wright McGill Fly Girl rod? The blank is a deep purple color and the grip feels better in the hand, but I just want to know what you would think about a man fishing with a purple fly rod with Girl on it in pink lettering.

I say to each his own. No big deal. My wife has the 8 ft 5 wt flygirl. I really like the way it casts. I've used hers occasionally but the grip is far too small for my hand for me to use it all the time.

I'd call you a wuss... but all in good fun.

That rod is "designed from reel seat to tip for the female fly caster"... whatever that means. I do think it's a bit lighter and the grip is probably some smaller in diameter... and purple... with pink lettering... but that's about the only "difference"... Probably a lot of guys would LOVE that rod if it wasn't for the pink lettering...

It's funny how the makers of most products will make male and female items based on the "average" user. What might fit my hand might be a "female" grip or might even have to be oversized "male" type. Of course I know women who buy and wear/use things like men's jeans, but I don't know any men who wear women's jeans...

I'd say use the rod... But don't put any rainbow stickers in your truck windows or wear pink waders... ;)

But...the rainbow was already there...

Thanks guys! The grip is smaller in diameter and it helps to hold the rod a little better.

Hey Drew, if too many people give you grief over the pink lettering, you could always "man" it up a bit by covering with duct tape.

I found myself in a simular situation a few years back and had to use the only thing I had which was a girl looking rod. Some guy kind of smirked at me and called me a sissy. I got even though. One the way back to my truck I hit him with my purse.

Seriously. To somewhat modify an old saying "a bad day fishing is worth more that an good day at work"

If your on the stream and the fish are at the feeding trough much else don't matter especially what someone else thinks.

I think a weighted wooly upside the head would shut anybody up.

It ain't the size, shape or color stick you wave, its how you use it. If you catch fish, then more power to ya!

There are some members who have been known to slow strip mink from time to time. It makes me hope my grandmother remembers me in her will and gives me here stole, it would some quality tying material :)
