Members Capt E Posted July 19, 2007 Members Posted July 19, 2007 Had to run an errand to Springfield yesterday afternoon on business, so I thought I'd let the company pick up the tab for a stop at Roaring River. The wife an I got on the water a little after 6 and started in down at the very end of the fly fishing area. The fish were interested in everything we threw at them as long as is was on top or near the top of the water... I started out with white woolies and caught some nice stockers.. For fun I tied on one of Leonard's Mohawk Sculpins and stripped it back fast, and managed to pick up a couple more fish. I noticed a small brown insect jumping for it's life across the top of the water with a bunch of fish hot on it's tail... Seeing that I switched to a brown crackle back and go a nice fish on the second cast... As the fly got wet and started to sink the fish seemed less interested and the seemed to be the theme for the reset of the evening until the horn ... As long as it was on top, they would hit immediately, but as soon as it started to sink nothing, it didn't really matter what it was. All in all it was still a bunch of fun, especially for some mid week action. Kerry
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Sounds like a good "business trip" to me! John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Members Casey Self Posted July 24, 2007 Members Posted July 24, 2007 My whole family (15 of us) was down for the weekend too, came in thursday left monday, was some awesome fishing, seemed like the size of the fish was smaller then normal but on sunday we got into several 1.5 lbs fish with an aditional 2 lber here and there. The fish seemed to be hitting on alot of different tackel but I picked up the majority of my trout on brown and green mini wooly's either dead drifting or stripping back..just depeneding on the time of day, but then alot on white flossies and white brassy's. Sunday evening we picked up a ton of fish from 4pm to 730pm strickly on white or red brassy's. I even hooked into a big brown that I faught for about 3 or 4 minutes until he finally dove in the shallows and broke me off. was sad but he'll be there for someone else. All in all was a great weekend. We had some new fly fishers's in our group that normally only spin fish and I got them converted over and they loved it..so that was great. Wishing I was still there. Kansas Fly Fisher Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Wish I knew so I could get the print. I found this surfing the net one time on another fishing site and liked it. I'll have to do a search for this Dwayne Hadda or Dwayne Taylor and see if it's the one. It's a great picture and I would love to have it on my wall so if you happen across the print let me know. Terry Beeson Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 While it looks a bit like some of Duane Hada's work, there are "things" about it that make me think it's not his. You will note Duane's use of sunlight underwater in his prints... not in that avitar. Click here for some of Duane Hada's prints of fish... Not saying it is NOT a Duane Hada print... Just that it has features that would lead one to believe it is not. I thought Duane lived in Cotter? Danoinark Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Terry, Duane lives and works in Cotter. His shop and gallery are there. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Thanks for the link! Those are some amazing art work. I'll have to stop by and visit the gallery in October when I come down for the conclave. Thanks again Terry. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
