perchjerker Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Just a Quick Question. I can take off any days in Nov. to do some nightime fishing for big browns.Any suggestions? Full moon, no moon, early or late in the month, fish next to Leonard or away????? Thanks up front. The Old Perchjerker Jim.
Dave Cook Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I'll be night fishing there the first week of Nov. I have to take whatever moonlight there is. Usually the darker it is, the better the fishing. The moon will be in the last quarter then, the new moon is Nov 9, and the full moon is Nov 24. I've had good luck on cloudy nights. The lights from town reflect back down from the clouds and give just enough light for you to see. Dave Cook Missouri Trout Fishermen's Association - Kansas City
Leonard Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Perchjerker... I for one, think the pass couple has been slow... full moon (I dont think that has much to do with it)... high water (I think is a small part),. me forgetting my favorite fly box last night (thats why last night was slow)..LOL as for as fishing next to me... hummm... early in the month is good... every year as for a family get together.. we make a pot of vension chili.... we have about 12 -20 pots of different types, hotness, and thickness... the thicker , hotter is better... BUT you dont want to be with 40 feet... upwind or downwind.... MAN.. Leonard http://www.taneycomonights.com
Micheal Kyle Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Jim I would have to say that over the years of fishing for big Browns in November has been the most rewarding. A lot of people come down in October in chase of a monster. And sometimes it does happen but after reviewing my journals most of my biggest Browns have come the 2nd-3rd week in November. I would say that the moon does play a big part of the Browns run just as it does in just about any other fish species when it comes time to spawn. I have noticed that just after the new moon is when I have done the best. One other thing that will play a role in how the fish will migrate up to the dam is flow of water. If they run a lot of water in the early fall I have noticed that the big fish are a little earlier than usual and then the last 2 weeks in October seems to be the best time. One thing that I will do as well is go down during the day and scout out the big fish then come back down at night and hammer the area that I saw a big fish. And when I say hammer an area I might fish a 200yd stretch for a very long period of time. I kind of think as the Brown run as hunting you do your home work and you will be rewarded.
