Well it looks like generation is on the schedule for most of the day and night. So, rather than taking a chance of not getting to fish we have postponed our trip to a later date. Hope it won't be too long of a wait, but work has been busy and getting two days off at a time has been near impossible.

John,

Is there a posted generation schedule somewhere? I do call the phone number to get the one-the-spot report, but it would be nice to get a projected scedule to plan better. I'm planning on going out there late Sunday night with an old Chanute High School buddy. I understand they have been running at least one generator during the early morning hours.

 Oh... wait... you're serious...

Just kidding... There is a generation schedule posted for all the SWPA dams found at http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx but is not all that reliable (therefore, the "joke" if you will...) But it does give SOME insight as to what they are "THINKING" about generating.

If you take the scheduled generation cubed times the temperature F plus the humidity divided by the chance of rain, then find the algorithm of the supervisor's birthday times the number of fish caught that day factorial to the negative power of the number of fishermen at the time divided by three, you'll have a pretty good idea if they are going to generate or not... :blur:

Seriously, if you view the schedule and then get the lake and tailwater levels by phone, you will have a medium chance of predicting generation. With this heat, SWPA is getting close to capacity, so expect generation most of the afternoons...

Terry,

That was a great reply. :) Thanks for the information.

TB - if you call 866-494-1993 they can give you the current "plan" for generation for today and tomorrow. It's an automated line and can be a bit troublesome to use, but good information. You can also use the website Terry eluded to plus the "math" to figure generation as well.

So - are you originally from Chanute then? I lived in Chanute from 1986 to 2002 and now live in Erie.

John,

Thanks for the number. It is a little "troublesom," but we got it figured out.

I was born and raised in Chanute, graduating from CHS in 1985. I believe I was in a volunteer firefighter training course with you in 1994 or so. I had to leave the CFD program early due to a job opportunity in Marshall, Mo. I know live in Reeds Spring and work in Springfield.

Thanks again,

Tim Q.

Yup! I was in the volunteer program. That was my transition from teaching at the Juco to public service. Went full time with the FD and then moved on to EMS. We'll have to meet sometime and do some fishing.

I just found that phone # (generation schedule) John posted a few months ago. I've found it to be fairly reliable both for Taney and for the White and Norfork. I have tried to call a few times though and the line is out of order. But when you can get through it's a great tool for planning your fishing.

John,

The fishing idea sounds good. I'm within 30 minutes from Taney.
