Zach Bearden Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Anyone fished on the Upper Illinois in a while for smallies? We fished a while back and caught some nice ones on a little fly and all it is is a beadhead on a size 12 with a rootbeer tail and a hares ear dubbing for the body... Very simple fly but I dont have anymore after the little guys destroyed about 6 of em. Ill post a pic of one that Im working on. Looks just like a crawdad in the water... (-the pinchers.. lol) "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. Competed Czech Republic. 7th Place Team Member: 2010 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. The Caddis Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 I've tied somthing similar in the past. Just as you describe, but when you tie the marbour tail in, tie it in like a hairwing so that it is separated into two tufts. Then dub or whatever for the body, tie in the antenae or not, and your done.
