Members Morgan F.
I will be floating the Twin Bridges to Hammond Camp Access on Sat. for my first visit to the North Fork of White. Have been told that there are not many trout in that section...mostly smallies and goggle eyes...is that in fact the case or have I been led astray? Plenty happy with whatever is there, I just want to be properly rigged! Would appreciate the help/info! Morgan F.
catman70
Warm-water fishery. Maybe different in winter.
Members Muleball39
That stretch of water is smallmouth and goggle eye, the trout water dosn't start until 4 miles below hammonds at rainbow spring.

hank franklin
River probably is pretty low up there. Might want to check with someone locally.
Members Morgan F.
Hank, Thanks for the heads-up! I am traveling with a group...and I'm just a tag along, but will make sure to check on that. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if we had to float a lower section with trout possabilities! Have a great weekend. Morgan
Brian Wise
That water is floatable, I'm not saying you won't have to drag, but it is floatable. That is some of the most fun smallie fishing I have ever done up that way, super clear water sight fishing to them. Make sure to bring some gitzits.... Members Morgan F.
Hey Brian! I have to ask...how was the 417 guide trip? I read the article and thouroughly enjoyed it! Thank you for the info on that section of the river. What is a "gitzit"? I was planning on running a teeny weeny craw or two...possibly some rooster tails / maribu's off of the spinning rig. I will be taking the fly rod with, but don't know how well I am set up for smallies in the fly tackle dept. Also a little concered about managing the 9' rod in 8.5' kayak! (I guess I could break it down between stops). Any particular streches of water I should keep an eye out for on that strech? Best Regards, Morgan
brownieman
small jig heads with a 4" purple worm (cremes if they still make em) always work good too...would compare them to a gitzit...little crawdad cranks work pretty good too. if you want to catch a ton of fish it's a hassle but take a minnow trap and bucket and use LIVE minnows. turn over some rocks and find some dads...smallies love both minnows and dads. i'd put minnows up against anything, bar none, use medium spinning tackle, 6 lb. test...rig up with a # 4 hook and throw a couple of split shots about a foot up from your hook. hook the minnows thru both lips and drift em bouncing the bottom on the shoals...pretty much pass up the dead holes unless you want a mess of gogs to eat, if so, use dead minnows for them. If they swallow the bait just cut it off...you go thru lots of hooks but it will not cost the fish it's life, ya know. Little gold eagle claw hooks break down fairly fast in the fish unlike heavier hooks...it's always been debatable though. imo nothing compares to live bait if you know how and where to fish it...just makes sense it being their natural food source but is a pain in the butt to keep but well worth it...lakes, rivers...matters not. a good bait fisherman can and will catch fish when others are getting skunked...just been my experience anyway...in 45 yrs of fishing i have a little experience. used to fish north fork and bryant back when i was a little kid...used to camp allot at Stone Mill with my parents when i was young...my dad and his buddy used to limb line bryant for cats way back when (early 60s)...remember them catching some dandy's...always have wondered if thats still possible nowadays ?...Brian, do you know? beautiful country down there also...you'll enjoy the trip and the fishing, catching is just a bonus. take care and good luck bm My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Members Morgan F.
Thank you all! Wasn't sure about using plastics on that stretch of river...from what I have read in the reg book I thought it wasn't allowed...will have to do more reading in the truck on the way down as I am leaving right...about...now! BM - will have to inquire as to the Bryant Catfishing situation while down ther and will try to post next week upon return, though I am sure Brian will know more than I will be able to dig up in a weekend! Have a great weekend of fishing...hopefully! Morgan
