There are also some monsters in the James River and is the Elk River near Noel. I seem to think there was one that went like 18 pounds...but it was "grabbed" not "caught."

River Redhorse (I know WAY too much about this fish) have giant molar-like pharyngeal teeth which they use to eat mussels and crayfish. They only make up a small percentage of the redhorse popualtion but are the largest redhorse species in this state. I have seen them get up to 28 years old in Canada, but in Missouri I think 14 is the oldest that I recall. Cool fish!
