Crane Creek was NOT good to me this morning

The water was good and fairly clear this morning near the dairy farm and only got a couple of strikes. My fishing buddy, a Crane Creek veteran, did much better and hooked a good size trout at one point. The fish fought like a true champ with jumps and a strong dash upsteam to break off the line, leaving my buddy shaking and amazed.

The area was really grown over. If you don't like tall thorny weeds, bugs and spiders, this place is not for you right now.

I used a TFO Finesse 7'9" 4wt rod. My Battenkill reel had a double-taper floating line with 6x leader and 7x tippet. The flies I used ranged from a zebra midge, tan midge, San Juan worm to a Dave's hopper and even a small light-colored jig in a deep run. I got the strikes on the zebra midge.

In the meantime, I'll tend to my wounds from the creek's thorn bushes and try again sometime soon. Nothing like paying your dues.

It is a hellish little creek, but isn't it quite over there? The spiders have been bad this year. Not so many snakes but plenty of other stuff, how far down did you go?

It is really quite and peaceful for sure. But it's a challenge. At least for me, anyway. We walked down about maybe 70 yards, give or take, and then back toward the parking lot.
