Members msubobcats Posted August 14, 2007 Members Posted August 14, 2007 Heading to Beaver in mid/late October and never fished it before. In fact, I have never laid eyes on the lake before. I would like to try and catch a striper, which I have done before at Texhoma. Any suggestions on where to fish the lake in October? I have searched through the posts from last year and no real help there. (I am guessing live bait drifted somewhere around the dam area, and maybe top water.) Go Cats
bobber Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 i think that time of year the fish are up in feeder creeks, and the riverarms with the white bass ...pushing bait fish . so a chrome / blue or black and chrome zara spook, even a clear one! or a 3/4 oz white haired jig with the red blood line. and a 4 to 6 inch trailer tail... we would go out about 3 hours before daylite, and by the time the sun came up it was time to go! ,.. 15 to 30 lbs fish....... so be ready!!! (you find the baitfish ....you've found stripers) it will take you some time on the water reading your depth finder in search of the( blacked-out screen of shad) or i could just look off the deck and let you know!! that the fish are jumpin' and the guideboats are stacked-up 6 deep doing figure 8's ................ but really.>>stripers are a spooky fish i think to much traffic really kills your chances and most of the time you'll only catch 1 or two , maybe three at best off one spot, now thats not to say you can't catch more fish , but i haven't, but at the same time you will get white's/ hybrds/ and slab crappie all right there and planning a trip that way you will have fun!! hope this help?. <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
Members msubobcats Posted October 24, 2007 Author Members Posted October 24, 2007 My results from fishing Beaver several weeks ago... I decided, since I had never seen the lake before, to go ahead and get a guide for a half day. I took my time and found a website and called. My choice in guides was poor and I ended up with a bad experience. I will say no names here, but safe to say the effort was poor, conservation was a priority, and I thought I would have to fight the guy to keep the small fish we caught. We fished up by the dam, which I thought was a below average guess at the time. We only fished there because it happened to be close to where I was camped, even though I told the guy I would meet him anytime, anywhere the fish were biting. I also found out that the guide is only a part-time fella, with a full time job as his regular employment. Nevertheless, this was my first effort at fishing with a guide and I guessed wrong. Next time, and there will be a next time very soon (I have to get this bad experience out of my system), I will ask more questions and be much more choosey in my search. Go Cats
