Went down to the park on the 5th and about the only thing i didn't throw was the kitchen sink. A small front came in with just a brief shower and the fish all got lock jaw. I know it wasn't just me because all the regulars were commenting how hard the fishing was. We tried nymphs , jigs, flies , worms and glow balls with every spinner bait you can name. I just finally ran out of different colors and lures in my vest to throw at them.

Water is a little low and yes we did catch fish but boy are they hesitant to commit. Had our best luck on jigs and worms. The gent above us and a little better success with white power bait.

I hope the fish we caught and saw are not how the season will continue till Oct. 31. The fish all year have been good 1 pounders and a lot heavier than that with beautiful color and really putting up some fights. All we saw and caught were the 10" silver stockers. Yeah I know I'm catching fish but I really got spoiled this year by the quality of the fish that have been in the stream.

Good Luck.

sounds like it was a tough day\

i agree with you that they have been putting in alot nicer fish this year and hopefully those fish you caught and seen were just part of a "bad batch". I have not fished the park in awhile and probably will not until c and r season, but the trophy area has been good as of lately. They average 13+ inches with good girth, nice red stripe, white tipped fins and fight out of this world. if you have not been down there, i reccomend giving it a try

CP- By the trophy area, do you mean the Meramec River outside of the spring branch? If so, is there public access on the river, or is it all private with the exception of Cardiac and Suicide accesses?

I'm going down there on the 22nd for a day trip with some guys from school, and was just wondering where to hook into something other than the stockers.

Thanks,

Rob

kayser, yes i mean the area below the springs outside of park. if you dont want to drive to cardiac or suicide access, you can get down there from the park. walk towards the end of park and cross the swinging bridge. go right and stay on that trail(alot of weeds and undergrowth are taking up alot of the trail but you can still see it.

It is a good spot in the hole below the bridge(where the park ends and the actual maramec river starts) if you keep on going down that path it will eventually take you to an opening where there is a cabin and a gravel road that runs along the river. take the gravel road down until you find a path to the right-take the path to the right and it will take you straight to the river at some good holes. fish dowstream and the fishing is good for awhile-hope this helps
