Have seen them on the Eleven Point as well. No clue as to their identity.

What you are seeing is the larvae of a very large type of misquito. For more information and a picture click on this link:

I don't think they can be used for bait because they actually bite on us eventually.

I think they may be firefly larvae. Web search I did was inconclusive though. Don't know if they really match the description of what was posted above. No, we didn't use them as bait though we thought about it.

I agree with the firefly larva, I have seen them along the trails at dewey short visitors center.
