am4mu Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Went out with Jeremy Hunt this morning for a half day instructional trip. After he showed me some of the basics we started fishing. (my first time fly fishing). We worked from below outlet 2 all the way down through the big hole and down towards the boat ramp. I missed a lot of hookups I saw and a lot I didn't see. Jeremy said I missed the set on a real horse one time. He was just sick about it. I never saw it until it was to late. Did land eight though the largest being a rainbow between 17 and 18 inches. Had a ball and learned a ton from Jeremy. Yes I'm hooked. Have a new pastime now. Doug Kiefer Doug Kiefer Independence, Mo h: am4mu@comcast.net w: dougk@schulzetool.com
Leonard Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Congrats Doug... In my opinion... You couldnt have picked a better "Teacher" for starting out!!! Leonard http://www.taneycomonights.com
flyfshn Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Congrats Doug! It only goes down hill from here....if you haven't tried fly tying, talk to Jeremy and Leonard...I think they offer classes. Nothing better than catching a fish on a fly you tied!! Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Bob A Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Doug, for your first time flyfishing, you did great! But be careful because once hooked, it's highly addictive......even worse than smoking! So, a great way to start out and catch alot more. Bob A Springfield, MO
Aeronikl Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Sounds like you're having a great time. Keep it up and enjoy the rest of your trip. Like everyone else said....you're hooked now.
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Congrats! I'd say you're hooked for sure. Keep it up and you'll need that second, third, fourth . . . job to support the habit. Have a great time! John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
troutchaser Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Welcome to the cult! Just remember, you don't reach the level of grand Poobah until you catch a wild trout on a dry fly, in Montana, on a handmade bamboo rod with silk line and a furled leader - all made by you. Then, my friend, you will be the Great Trout Bum who delivers gifts to all the good little flyfishers all over the world. (I'd like a new Galvan reel for my 4 weight, please) Paul Rone
Members pinecone Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 Jeremy is a great guy and will always go out of his way to offer help. Flyfishing is way too addictive and should be controlled by the D.E.A. or some other large government agency. Jerry Longview, TX
Terry Beeson Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Well, that does it... Just go ahead and drop your credit cards all off at your local fly shop. They will now take over your bank account... Once you start tying, you will really see their name on your bank account transactions a lot... Now you HAVE to get into tying for yourself.... Yep... ain't nothin' like the feelin' of catchin' a fish on a fly you tied yourself...
