Bill Butts Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Greetings~ Just wanted to ask if there are others that have the frustrating experience I have with pages downloading slowly from this site? I use SBC DSL (their fastest service offered) and have a Pent4 / 2 GB processor / 480 RAM and not much junk running in the background. I have tried the downloads on a faster pc of a friend with only slightly better results, also on SBC. I visit other Forum sites with similar software formats and all of them seem to download much quicker. Interestingly, all the links on the OA home page load very quickly. It would seem to point the finger at the Forum software (?). Any suggestions for me out there? Bill Butts Springfield MO "So many fish, so little time"
tippet7 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 The forum pages are quick for me. I have high speed cable connect at home and DSL here at work. However...the pictures take FOREVER to come up. I just assumed it was because I always have a bunch of junk running in the background. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Rusty Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Bill, This problem always happens to me when I empty or delete cookies. However, I still have a hard time entering the Bass Pro web site at anytime. Back to the question at hand...I have found that after dumping my cookies I can go to a couple of other sites that have alot tables that are embeded on their site. And at that time it will start running OAF just fine. My personal opinion, I think its the forum program. But, a computer guru I am not.
jOrOb Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Bill, I will bet you are using Norton Internet Security (or one of the other Norton Suites). Norton sux up a ton of compute cycles, and it is the big dog, so it eats first. Nothing happens without Norton's permission. I use a pretty crappy DSL and I get the forums at fine speeds. jOrOb jOrOb "The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me." Rev MacLean
Bill Butts Posted January 31, 2006 Author Posted January 31, 2006 jOrOb and russ, You were both correct. I am running Norton IS and have been considering replacing it based on a trusted friend's experience. Looks like its time to make a decision. I also deleted all my cookies, 888 to be exact, and that seemed to make a big difference on some pages downloading but little difference on others. Thanks very much for your input.
