Terry Beeson Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Well, I'll start... I only got to attend Friday as I had something come up and had to come back home Friday night. But I enjoyed that one day for sure. I got to see a lot of guys I haven't seen in a while, meet some new people, and learned a few things. I didn't get to fish, but I did get to hunt Friday morning - saw five deer and 18 turkeys but all too far to lob an arrow at... But what a great hunt! That's what I'M talkin' 'bout!!! Saw some of the new TFO and Sage rods and got to cast a sweet TFO 1 wt Finesse. Went to Davy Wotton's session on soft hackles which every guy who wants to tie and fish them should be required to go through - either with Davy, Dave Whitlock, or someone similar. It's funny to realize just how much time, thought, and effort guys like Davy and Dave put into developing flies. When they demonstrate tying, it seems each step has a specific idea, purpose, and little techniques that most of us don't think about. Speaking of soft hackles, thanks to John Berry for the dozen... uh... I mean the one green butt. I had hoped to use it today, but I will get it wet soon. There's another guy who you should sit down and get some pointers on tying. By the way... for those of you who saw my and John's conversation about "Mr. Berry" and "Mr. Beeson" being too formal for us - that was our dads' names... Well.... I got to meet Mr. Berry!!! John's dad was there with him and Dan. I did get around and make it to Fred's Fish House for dinner (Where were you Don?) Great meal! Not long after leaving Fred's, I got a phone call and ran back to the farm, packed, and headed back to Nixa. Anyway.... Good to see those I got to see and meet those I got to meet. I thought this would be a year I could spend a lot of time at Conclave, but didn't pan out... The good news? SOWBUG IS ONLY SIX MONTHS AWAY!!!! Danoinark Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Thanks for the report Terry. I didn't get to make it this year either. Always important family obligations seem to keep me away. Maybe next year. Hope all is ok at home. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Thanks for the report Terry, I too didn't get to make it down this year. Just too many pans in the fire. I am looking forward to the sowbug thought. Hope to make it back soon and fish the great waters of Arkansas. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Don Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Good summary of the clave, I can't add too much more. We made Fred's later than expected (Got lost but don't tell anybody) but I didn't see you as well. It was packed but the food was really good. The reason you didn't see me was because I was curled up and passed out in the corner after ordering too many seconds of the Granddaddy catfish patter. By the way, that tomato relish is awesome mixed in the coleslaw. P.S. If you heard rumors that the tall waitress was sweet on me, it just isn't true. Instead she was looking real hard at my friend Steve because he was the only man at the table that had the guts to order the hot and spicy cajun fries. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
John Berry Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Had a great conclave. My brother, Dan, tied Dan's Turkey Tail Emergers at the tying table across from my booth. My Dad was in town visiting and was able to meet Terry. Met a whole bunch of great people and was finally able to match some names with faces. We went to Fred's on Saturday night for our catfish fix. I look forward to next year! John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Terry Beeson Posted October 10, 2007 Author Posted October 10, 2007 Yeah the banquet on Friday this year got my schedule all out of whack. But then again, I'm glad I went ahead and got my Fred's fix since I had to come back home that night. I'm assuming the Friday night banquet is a permanent change? I guess that gives Johnny more time to auction off all that stuff on Saturday night. How did the auction go by the way? I'm sure I missed a BUNCH of great stuff at bargain basement prices... damselfly Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 i don't think the banquet being on Friday night is a done deal for each year.....i imagine each conclave chair will have the option to 'rearrange' it as they see fit.....so you need to ask Michael for 2008. interesting statistic......we made more in 1 night this year on live auction than in 2 nights last year......not much more, but more.
