Okieflyfisher53 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I made it down to Zink Dam this morning, since they finally stopped running water. I didn't get into any stripers or hybrids, but did manage to catch 4 paddlefish and a buffalo. The first spoonbill I landsd was around 50 lbs, but didn't fight as hard as some of the smaller ones that I hooked. The stripers are there, but there are so many spoonbills in the water it's hard to cast without hitting one. Hopefully, we will have low water for a while so I can get down there and try again. Steve

Zach Bearden Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 So they hit it? or was it a snag? I dont know that ive ever heard of a spoonbill hitting a fly. Either way nice catch on a fly rod! taxidermist Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 While most people think that Spoonbills are plankton feeders they do hit larger lures. I have known of them hitting spinner baits and even jig and pig. I mounted one, well molded it and made a fiberglass reproduction of it that hit a Zara Spook. Nice fish and the lad was only 14 years old.
Okieflyfisher53 Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 Zach, One of them was hooked in the bill near the mouth. I don't know if it was trying to eat it or it was just a coincidence. Steve
Zach Bearden Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I've heard of them hitting lures. Never have had one hit, but I sure would like to toss a 10wt at one! LOL "Its clearly Bree time baby!"
