Looked through the pages briefly, but didn't see much about underwater digital point and shoots. I've looked at the Pentax Optio W30, but I'm not sure what else is out there. Can anyone suggest other models to compare the Pentax to.

Thanks, Barry

Another alternative might be a watertight case for shooting below water. I have seen some on the market and you might google and find what you are looking for.

I wish I would have bought that camera. Even though I did get a nice one I'm still very afraid to carry mine even in a ziplock.

I have heard great things about that camers and have seen under water shots from it...

I've got a Pentax WPi. Takes great underwater shots. Only problem I have with it is that there is no viewfinder...you compose the picture on the screen on the camera back. That is not easy to do when you're trying to capture a moving fish underwater. However, I love the camera for taking along in the canoe on float trips...no worries about it getting wet, and it fits in my shirt pocket.

Olympus makes some underwater point and shoots as well, but I've had bad luck with the two Olympus point and shoots I've owned (before the digital days). Both threw craps soon after the warranty ran out, and the camera repair people told me that both would be so expensive to repair that buying a new one made more sense. And the Pentax's I've owned have all been very reliable cameras. So I went with the Pentax rather than the Olympus.

Check the Scuba Dive shops, the better shops will have some on hand, and have flyers about others. The object is $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

You really dont need a lot of flash underwater and the flash will bounce back from minute particals floating in the water. Like the orbs people take pics of, these are dust particals and the same happens in the water.

You can buy underwater cases for almost and medium prices or higher end camera, those too are going to be $$$$$$$$$ but you get full function of the camera.

My brother bought a sony camera and found a case for less than $500.00

Remember these cases are machined and have o-ring seals around each control. His is rated to 250 feet.

google underwater cameras and the underwater camera cases.

I beleive that pelican makes some cases... I worked at a dive shop for a while and what I saw was that a camera that had a case when you bought it was MUCH cheaper than when you bought a case after you bought a camera. Some cases for underwater cameras can be as much as 800$ for a Cannon or a high $ Sony.

I've got the Pentax waterproof camera also. Without a view finder it's tough to shoot in the sun. However, it has great features and it does take very good photos.

Has anyone tried the

Sealife SL321 ECOshot

It looks rugged and at $199 it's cheaper than the Olympus and Pentax.
