Members Conman64 Posted October 30, 2007 Members Posted October 30, 2007 Have the whites started yet? It looks like the surface temp has dropped from 75 to 68 over the last 3 or 4 days, Im sure hoping that this gives the whites and hybrids the boost they need to get their feed on... I had an absolute blast catching them last fall and would love to get into them again this weekend. Anyone been fishing the lower osage recently? Where are the blacks?
podum Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I was up 10 days ago and we spent the day fishing for whites on the windy main lake points. It was still a little too warm and really windy but there was a bite if you were persistent. With the cooler weather since, it should be good now. If nothing else, there will be far less of the big boats than we had to deal with. As for the blacks, we found a decent spinnerbait bite in the back third of the coves off of dock corners. Color didn't matter so long as it was white. Good luck and give us a report when you're done! I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
creek wader Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Fished the lower Osage, about 30 miles downstream from Bagnell dam, today. I was fishing from the bank. Caught a fat 13 in. spotted and several smaller ones. Also, caught two 11 in. crappie back to back, then my reel shelled out on me. (bail wouldn't close). Had to give up, only got an hour of fishing in. Looked like the crappie are getting active. Will definatly be back. I was using twister tails, fished between 3:30 and 4:30. Water clear and low. Perfect sunny day, little wind, 60 degrees. wader
CMAC Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Secondary report on whites from reliable source said catching whites main lake points with direct wind, jigs, cranks and topwater baits catching most of these fish. This is between the Gravios and dam.
Members Conman64 Posted November 5, 2007 Author Members Posted November 5, 2007 Slow Slow Slow! Very limited success this weekend on any species. Nice weather and Fall fishing do not mix. Bring on the cold windy days to get the whites schooled up. I guess I will have to try again in a couple of weeks.
CMAC Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Conman, Whites are on the main lake points in the dam area, shallow when the wind is blowing. Also, look for the shad close to the shore on these points direct sign the whites/hybrids are there. It was windy this weekend, but didn't help me none fishing for largemouths!
Members Whopperstopper Posted November 13, 2007 Members Posted November 13, 2007 Finally got my trip to the Niangua end of the lake. We caught wipers mostly on the long shallow points and shallow banks when the wind was blowing hard. When the wind calmed we switched to crappie in cove brush piles. Tried some main lake bluff pockets and caught several 14 inch crappie. All fish were scattered. Three fish in the same spot was the best we found. The highlight of the trip for me was catching a 4.6 stiper or white.?? It had unbroken lines like a white but it had two rows of teeth on the toungue like a stiper. Whatever it was it was a blast with an ultralight rod.
